I'd just like to know.................. if I was to purchase a Hybrid Super Audio CD (SACD) like this one, I KNOW it won't play on my CD ROM, but can I at least SEE the files on the CD so that I can move them to my PC and then rip them using dbPoweramp from DSD to like FLAC format? Please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

Not to my knowledge with respect to the SACD layer.  And I tried it with a single layer SACD (i.e. not hybrid).  My DVD-ROM couldn't recognize anything.

These days a number of record companies (is that even the appropriate term anymore?) are releasing the contents of SACDs as DSD downloads (thereby destroying the value of many of my out of print discs

).  Do you have a particular recording in mind?

Hi jeg,

I have no idea what the "appropriate" title is to give those companies anymore. I guess "music companies"? lol

Yeah they are. Acoustic Sounds is my main source for DSD music, though I'm now starting to see that HDTracks is also offering them as well. I can't say I'm unhappy about it. LOL But it's good to check reviews on the store sites and other sites too cuz sometimes the DSD releases can suck (i.e. first Doors album, Boston debut, etc.) I got a few DSD albums and they tend to sound incredible, but of course that's only b/c they tend to get only the best masters. I know the higher resolution has nothing to do with it (marketing BS lol).

Yes I do........2 actually. One of them though hasn't been released (the one from my OP)......Rage Against The Machine's 2nd album, Evil Empire. It gets released on Dec. 16th. The other JUST got released........their first album. I'm doubting you have this one though cuz it just came out on 6/24/16. Both are Hybrid SACDs.

So maybe it's best if you just told me what you had? lol And would you be able to extract the DSD files (and I could just convert them myself)? I'm interested in mostly rock albums.

Thanks.

My SACD rock collection is rather paltry and is weighted toward the 60's and 70's. Try me on jazz (lots of Miles Davis and Analogue Production titles) or classical. Or Frank Sinatra. On the other thread, the OP spoke of someone who provides the service at $5 per disc. Maybe you could approach him.

Well as much as I love newer bands, a lot of my favorites are from that era as well. So I'd still like to know what you got. lol

I could, and I actually e-mailed that service today. The guy who replied back said they charge $5/disc, but have a $50 minimum, plus you have to send an external hard drive or flash drive as well. I'd rather just pay via PayPal or something like that and then perhaps just get a link from you that I could access those DSD files. I just want the files.....don't need the disc too. I can do the conversions myself once I have them.

Thanks.

Just so I'm clear, even if I use Foobar, there's still no quick way for my CD-ROM to be able to see the SACD/DSD layer on a Hybrid SACD??

Clear as crystal!

Nearly all audio CDs do not contain digital files; they contain physical grooves which are read by lasers.

Some audio CDs are also data CDs, in which case you can simply drag and drop certain files to your computer. (But most aren't.)

Yeah.

Well then what are CDA files then? Aren't those digital?

Man this sucks. So many hassles.
