Exciting news! I love my Micro iUSB3.0!

Will both ports be capable of data and power with intelligent switching? Meaning: if dual ended usb is used one port is power only and the other is data only, but if I have two single ended cables both operate with power and data. Not having switching on the Micro iUSB3.0 is a minor quibble I have, as I use a double ended cable, which effectively limits me to one port for an external hard drive and one fast charge point.

Would a beginner be able to appreciate a bit of kit this advanced?

The specs look solid to my amateur eyes and it's a modest investment comparatively.
I found that the Micro iUSB3.0 improved sound stage depth and width, and made note decay more natural on DACs from $300(Geek Out V2) to $2000 (Schiit Ygdrassil). I think most of the effect is by reducing the noise floor.

I can't guarantee you'll hear it, but most who have compared using my set-up have, including my non-audiophile wife. Split power and data USB cables also make a difference, but they do cost a bit. The split cable that iFi makes is the Gemini, which I haven't tried. I have 2 of the LH Labs Lightspeed 2g.

Hi,

To answer your question, the following would be our recommendation.

If your USB DAC is:

1) USB dac <US$500 eg nano DSD = iPurifier 2 (ie. no need for mUSB3.0 or nUSB3.0).

2) USB dac US$500 to US$5k eg iFi/Chord = nano USB3.0.

3) USB dac >US$5k eg DCS/AMR = micro iUSB3.0.

Hopefully this summary shows that if you have a <US$1k DAC, then the micro iUSB3.0 is overkill as unlikely to hear the additional performance.

But if you are thinking of upgrading in the future your DAC, then the nano USB3.0 is the ideal one as it is half the price of the micro USB3.0 flagship but has 85% of the performance/features. It does need the mains from the iPOWER so is not portable like the iPurifier2 which is USB-powered.

Cheers.

I have an iPurifier2 on order (seems strange since my iDSD Micro has the original iPurifier built into it) and also ordered a Mercury cable. However, I'd prefer not to use a wall plug plus my entire fanless PC was built from scratch with clean, isolated power to the USB ports.

I like the idea of the nano iUSB3 and Mercury cable combo for $249 US but would I gain anything using it over the iPurifier2 and Mercury?

I have an iFi iPurifier 2 with a Chord 2Qute,it sounds great! Will I get a significant SQ improvement from adding an original USB power to the chain,or starting from scratch with a Nano USB 3.0?

Hi,

The iP2 and nano iUSB3.0 and micro iUSB3.0 all perform the same duties.

So if you have the nano iUSB3.0 you dont need the iPurifier2. The iPurifier2 is not inside the nano or micro iUSB3.0 (as it were).

They all have the REclock/REgenerate/REbalance technologies for example.

Cheers.
