just my 2 cents , i don't hear an enhanced/coloured mid-bass nor a rolled-off treble

in fact , i think that my ZX2 is more bassy/ less trebly than DX80
rolleyes.gif

and , from memory (since i sold my dx90 a month ago) , i think that DX80 has a more enjoyable sound than DX90 as the dx80 lows are more robust (always used my bass switch with my dx90) and the highs are less 'metallic'/digital without being rolled-off

soundstage is also good , but here i can not remember a lot regarding differences , maybe the dx90 seemed a tad more 'open' - but that is not to say that dx80 sounds 'closed' , making this clarification to avoid any misunderstandings

yes the FW has some small glitches , but i am not fearful of them , ibasso will iron them out i am sure

has anyone tried loading both sd cards , or is there a bug there ?

cheers

^^^ This.

Frequency response is by the way perfectly flat and the claimed low output impedance is true as well, but I didn't have many doubts regarding this even before I measured it.

Our next FW update will allow for both cards. We have our software team working overtime into the later hours to get this FW out. It will correct  other areas as well.

any others bug so far ?

I think all of the bugs so far have been reported on the special thread.
http://www.head-fi.org/t/786815/ibasso-dx80-bug-thread-post-any-firmware-bugs-issues-here

Basically we are waiting for the first firmware patch that will hopefully address the reported issues.
If there are anything not fixed, or new bugs arising after the firmware update, then we can report it to that thread and notify iBasso.

Has anybody tried the optical out into Mojo/Hugo?

I'm not that fussed about the SQ of the unit itself (sorry!) but just want a cheap DAP with decent UI and good optical out. Does the DX80 come with an optical cable?

I'd also be interested in DX80 / FiiO X7 comparisons...

dx80 doesnt have optical out, it has coax out and it comes with coax cable. though its probably cable with 3,5 mono + RCA jack, not cable with 2x 3,5 mono jacks which you need for MoJo. but you can easily buy RCA / 3,5 mono jack adapter or try to buy or make the right coax cable yourself.

I was doing burn in (with included cable) and periodic on'n'off listening.  Then, last evening took it off charger to see how long battery going to last.  Keep in mind, screen off, high gain, nearly at max volume, no real headphones but rather included burn-in cable with a termination load - it lasted 12.5 hours!!!  At 0% now, and still playing, probably on its last breath lol!!!  Typically I do "best" case battery test with screen off anyway, with volume at moderate level so I don't blow out headphone drivers, so this is a relatively similar test to what I would have done with any other dap.  Over 12 hours of use, now that is impressive!

Also, this is probably one of the most pocket-friendly DAPs I have tested.  It has a very slim and slick shape, goes easily in and out of the pocket.  Volume buttons are large enough and easy to find.  Headphone jack is at the bottom, relatively close to 3 large hardware control buttons, so when you have it in your pocket with headphone wire up - it's very easy to reach in and to control playback with Play/Pause and Skip/forward buttons.

Still very impressed and looking forward to the next fw update.

Nice impressions twister6. I hope it compares favorably to your other DAPs. Are you going to be doing a review?

I will be picking mine up today after work so I will post some impressions today or tomorrow.

Managed to try it today. I was mainly comparing this to my N5. My N5 has around 40hrs and the DX80... probably still quite raw.

My brief impressions on both driving my ES5:

DX80:
- more balanced across the spectrum.
- better bass definition and control.
- airier mids and highs.

N5:
- seems to have some dip somewhere between the mids and treble range... hmm... veiled?
- more impact or attack in the notes.
- little more sparkly treble.

The DX80 sounded really nice... to a point that I am considering replacing my N5 with. However, aside from the usual bugs that I'm quite confident will be ironed out soon (coming from an ex-DX50 and 90 user), there is one that I want to make sure it's rectified before I really contemplate seriously about it. I've already posted in the bug thread.

Nice! I was also in doubt between the N5 (because I like my C5 amp so much) and DX80 at first. But the more I read about it, the more I'm sure that the DX80 will be the one for me.
Thanks for sharing your impressions on these 2 daps
