What a long, strange trip it's been -- (Robert Hunter)

I've been interested in a product like the microrendu with linear power supply. But, I don't want to pay $400+ for the power supply. I wonder if it would be feasible for a good engineer to offer one for $99... probably not. Heeheehee.

I've just ordered Uptone's LPS-1 for a uRendu that I already have...it's been a tough call...been on the fence for a while. The subjective evidence was (to me) somewhat overwhelming on various forums...to varying degrees. I had to find out for myself...finally. We'll see if it makes sense in my setup.

EDIT: I'm purely guessing...but I wonder if the difference may be more significant on more modest DAC's like mine rather than more upmarket DAC's. (altho, I am considering an upgrade to a Schiit at some point soon). BTW the LYR 2 is superb.

Just get one of the $50 Chinese ones.  That's what I did for my SMS-200 and I couldn't tell the difference between it and a $15 Jamesco.  I don't see the logic in spending  more than what the "main" device cost.

That being said, I have this hypothesis  that switching supplies inject noise back into the mains and that causes problems in other components.

This is true. Plug a switching power supply into the same outlet as an EKG machine and TRY to get a decent 12 lead EKG. Impossible.

Medical grade switching psu does not do this and are not much more expensive.

We have solar panels. I'm curious if adding a tesla power wall and running out house off that stationary battery would improve cleanliness of power.

I've wondered if a generator might be the way to go, especially one of the inverter models. Just use it for the sound system. Obviously not practical for apartment dwellers and others in crowded circumstances. But with power conditioners hitting the $8K to $10K mark, a dedicated generator begins to look like a bargain. Mike, any thoughts?

It was a very big Manhattan day today.

Until today, no one at Schiit had heard the Manhattan except for me, Ivana, and Dave. Since I initially considered the notion almost two years ago, there was little external validation of the concept other than a half assed undisclosed and concealed proto at the first Schiit Show. We have been working on the basic engine for the Manhattan, with the dominant effort of making it perfectly sonically transparent, since it involves quite a bit of processing.

Today, just to be sure, I brought it into Schiit for several new pairs of ears to audition, with no one knowing exactly to what they were listening. Out of this comes two significant conclusions:
1. The Manhattan is a huge upgrade for any music which ever lived in the real world or is based upon structured music theory; that would be pop, rock, jazz, classical, etc. For monotonic or arbitrary music such as many forms of techno or rap, zero to less so.

2. Every person who blindly heard it todayhas indicated a strong preference for the "Manhattan processed" output, even when using very high quality source material such as the Muddy Waters Folk Singer Mobile Fidelity Gain System recording.

3. The Manhattan Project DSP engine is successful as well as complete. Well done, Ivana!!

Dr. Ivana will make her Schiit public debut at Canjam LA.

A new age dawns today.  For the first time audiophiles will want more processing.

I am excited to hear the Manhattan gadget.  I won't be at the CAN JAM though.

Is it even fair to ask what a rough timeframe for a product might be?

Dr Ivana and the Manhattan at Canjam?  Or only Dr Ivana?

Is she doing a presentation of some sort?

Since we only have the engine complete, we still have a phuc ton of reprogramming, the IO and balance of design.  No presentation other being available at the show.  Go easy on her, it is her first show.

Weirdest thing!  I don't see a picture in your posting but the quote showed one.  At this point anything I say about the picture would probably be inappropriate.

Now, having already embarrassed myself, I remember the first show I went to for sales support.  I loved it!  Had a ton of fun meeting customers and prospects and shooting the schiit with them.

I hope Dr Ivana has a similarly fun experience but our customers were educators so maybe more "civilized" than the CanJam crowd?  At least, until the after hours shenanigans

Such an incredible recording. If Manhattan can improve upon something that close to music perfection, I'll be first in line.
