Sad news, but i think the person who did this was well informed. The orpheus is not that known. Maybe some inside job like another user said. But who knows. Good luck with investigation though :/

I get it, Orpheus was/is one real expensive system.
But what's the big deal about it. It's bulky, heavy, need its own 5 ton-amp which consumes hundreds of watts.
How does that help anyone enjoy their music better?

Not to justify theft, I'd be quite pissed if someone stole my one-of-the-only-kind headphones. But 10-year or death sentence is way too much overkill.

I hope that the thieves didn't take the key.  The only way to turn on the original Orpheus amp is turn on the key.  Bad news indeed.    I hope they get it back.

I lived in Germany for 11 years from 1976 to 1987.
The first time i heard this stolen Orpheus story ?
Is Germany now no more so safe ?
I hope police can catch the person very soon.

Actually my first thought when I heard the Orpheus was stolen was that they wanted it for personal use for the magnificent sound quality. But then again, I would have a hard time fathoming anybody in their right mind, or even left mind to be able to enjoy good sound every day knowing it was an expensive stolen good.

Hey this stuff happens in this hobby, part of the business. We should expect to see this stuff happen more often ad the masses learn more about high end hifi.

Hopefully it changes nothing, this is sadly part of all business.

I don't think Seenheiser cares about the monetary loss but the fact that they lost a legacy product. I do hope they have a spare one to use for tuning their other product but if this is their only unit than that is indeed a significant loss.

what the hell ?  this is really sad,i listened to the Orpheus last year at CES- Las Vegas it was awesome,i guess i'm not gonna next year :frowning2: .
its obvious the jerks knew what they were looking for.(or just got f..lucky)
they should start the investigation at the bottom, security guards,drivers..do some background check on people who temporary working with Senn. on the show.
if they stupid enough they will list it on craigslist somewhere in Europe.(maybe ebay)they'll either sell it quick or if they know what they got they will sit on it for a while.
we should put up couple of posts on craigslist(EU)..... looking for high end headphones or Sennheiser products.
Sennheiser should list all the stuff got stolen with the serial numbers.asap

hope they will catch those S holes !
