 Fostex TH-500RP

This one is difficult. For my addiction to female vocal; the Fostex TH-500RP does vocal so well that I nearly bought it. However, it remain unspectacular in other areas. The overall build quality is great but the “leather” pads on it was not up to par and felt rather stiff.

If you are craving for super clear and lush mids the Fostex TH-500RP should be on your list to try, but try before you buy.

This sounds like a description of the T50RP MK2... which kind of implies that speculation of the mk3s being (or at least sounding like) factory modded mk2s is rather accurate. That's useful (and really, all the more reason for me to get in touch with LFF).

Thanks

The TH-500RP was all round better than the variants of Mk3 to my ears. The Mk3 on their own is actually pretty good, especially considering their price, I like the closed version of the Mk3 myself.

Did anyone score pricing/availability from electromod on the Gungnir Multibit and Mjolnir 2?

Electromod have launched a new website for schiit products apparently: http://schiit.eu.com;
I spoke to Mark from Electromod; He had no information on availability as yet.
He also mentioned that for £20 one can test any of their schiit gear for a week - no questions asked ...

Good tip on the website, it's looks half built but I was able to glean some rough pricing from it. Twenty quid loaner programme bodes well..

Hi Guys,

Yes sorry about the web site not quite finished yet but the old site electromod.co.uk is still up and running, and always happy to help on the phone.
I must just say what a great weekend with all you guys (and some girls), it was very enjoyable and so honest i even had a gentleman leave his expensive portable player and dac on the table for other customers to try (apparently he had better choice in music than me?) and i did not even know who he was, when he did return he just said he knew it would be OK, nice testament to all the people who attended. Already thinking on how to beat what we did this year which is hard considering all the new products.

Anyway thanks to Head-fi and everyone for making it such a great weekend.

Mark

Mark - good to meet you, and I'm sure many attendees would like to say thanks to you also for bringing so much great kit/Schiit to the show for us all to play with.  Unfortunately (fortunately for you!) you may have cost me a lot of money....!

The Custom IEM company say their molds only last around 3 months then need replacing. No idea if this is true, but Snugs assured me that theirs would give years of use without degradation. Again, I can't tell if this is true or false either.

But I will know about the snugs shortly.

I think you are misunderstanding between impressions and the sleeves. The Custom IEM Company requires getting ear impressions, which I got at my local Specsavers for £25 (£12.50 per ear), and involves a gel being put in your ear, setting, and then being removed. The gel solidifies and forms a perfect impression of your ear, this is the mould they were referring to and this only lasts for three months. I sent the impressions the same day to them, and within a week I received my sleeves (which last indefinitely). In comparison, Snuggs use an electronic device to take your ear impressions, and that can be stored in a digital format and will never degrade. From the digital impressions they manufacture your sleeves, which will last indefinitely as well.

The only reason to favour Snuggs over the Custom IEM Company for this reason is if you will want more sleeves manufacturing in the distant future (beyond three months), which most people won't.

if you consider that on the day they charged £119, which included instant ear impressions.  Looks like the Custom IEM Company charge £105 for their custom sleeves and their impressions start at £42. So if you bought in the day (like me) you can sleep easy :)  Even the retail of £159 doesn't seem outrageous if they work well.

I agree, but you don't have to get your impressions with the Custom IEM Company. My local Specsavers did them for me at £12.50 per ear (£25 over all). I don't believe the Custom IEM Company do half sleeves, so that might be a problem for some.

Hi everyone! My apologies for not having posted any pics or impressions yet, but I've been super busy here. Still in London at the moment, and finishing the last bit of lingering CanJam London business this afternoon as a matter of fact. I'll post more soon. But for the moment, I just wanted to thank everyone for coming, and hope that it was a fun and enjoyable time for all. I, for one, enjoyed meeting all of you.

Numpty of the Canjam comp.
Self nominations not others please, (objects allowed) for the "numpty of the Canjam" comp. I'll start the ball rolling by moninating myself, for the dubious distinction of wearing the Hifiman HE1000 backwards. Yes that's right, those massive ones with the enormous inclined earcups.
But iI may be trumped if, this is true.
I heard after closing, that one of the Sennheiser Momentum HPs sources, had a rotary volume switch which, increased the volume when you turned the knob anti-clockwise, and decreased the volume when turned clockwise. Maybe he was pulling my pisser, I but I'll cling on to hope.
Will someone please confirm that such an abomination exists, so that I make only runner up, or trump my folly with their own faux pas perhaps. Come on folks get it off your chest.

Can I nominate myself for being a block head for not making this event? :D
Oh sorry, a numpty for not making it to the event.
