Ibasso DX80

So the amp in the DX80 is a bit crappy then by the sounds of it. Lacking soundstage, yeah? Significantly, or just mildly? I hope you're listening iBasso, we need you to fix this now before it gets to retail, because with limited soundstage i certainly wont be buying it. Fix the soundstage and i'll probably buy. But why you didn't just spend $5 more and put the ESS Sabre DAC in the DX80 is quite annoying. Honestly, iBasso, please fix the amp while you've got the chance, or else the FiiO X7 gets my money, and it's getting 'rave' reviews already.

You Guys are killing me. Seriously.

Thats just a random dude, who felt that the Soundstage was "lacking" something. Who gives a **** about one persons impression, when barely anyone else had the chance to listen to the DX80.

None of the DX80s viewed are the latest FW or hardware version. They were sent out to a few dealers as demo models to see how the DX80 looked and to look at the basic functions.

I don't think you could make such demand to iBasso based on a single impression though.
And why are you even looking for soundstage in a DAP? Not to mention based on an impression made by testing it with IEM?

I myself am excited to see how DX80 performs because I like how it looks, spec looks promising too and great price point but until the official release, I won't judge its sound quality (and I believe they do things right anyway, well except I still have doubt in the UI). Gonna wait a month after its release to see its stability.

All impressions are important but with any product threads on Head-fi it's the majority of all impressions which form a solid picture of performance, usability etc. I will be getting DX80 and chiming in for you guys, we'll paint a solid picture together.

I wouldn't say it's so severe to the point it lessens my enjoyment significantly, but definitely needs immediate attention if possible. I don't think you can compare this with X7 though, it's on a whole another level especially with desktop dac inside and the modular amp, not to mention price point.

Perhaps this is my most descriptive attempt with my crappy impression skill

Note 4 without amp ----> DX80 without amp -----------------> Note 4 with amp --------> DX80 with amp

Nonetheless i would be expecting/hoping to hear the DX80 outperform the FiiO X5 2nd gen, otherwise there's not much to take notice of. I hope iBasso understands this.

Well may i say something iBasso? I hope to God you guys are gonna make sure that the DX80 is pumping in every regard. IMO it will need to trump the decent FiiO X5 2nd gen if it is to get my money or attention. If what the guy above said about the soundstage is correct, i advise you now to go back and fix it before releasing the DX80;. I beg of you.
And a question to iBasso... is it even possible for firmware to change the characteristics of a DAP in any real meaningful way? If it is possible, then that gives hope. Please answer. But if this is an amp problem, then i implore, change or fix the amp please, before release of the DX80. Cheers.

The Fiio X7 is quite a lot more money. Not even in the same price category with the DX80. The DX80 is more in the X5ii or X3ii category. Pity about the first impressions..

Nonetheless, the Astell&Kern 120mkII and the DX80 use exactly the same DAC. So with implementation, whose to say. Everyone already knows how the Astell&Kern are overpriced. Just a thought. Like iBasso has said "It's all about implementation".

I have no idea what music or headphone/IEM was used. Even with the original hardware the DX80 has a good sound stage. Also in my response above I have stated that both hardware and FW changes have been made.

One of the things I really enjoyed about the DX100 was it's spacious soundstage, so I have faith that iBasso will do a decent job with the DX80s soundstage, too, even though it uses different chips.

Don't worry Paul. We are all a bit too excited about getting our hands on the DX80.

Once the production stocks arrive eventually, I'm sure most of us will use our own ears to decide, and hopefully comment on this thread based on their experiences.
I think there's no point of over-interpreting other people's early reviews, or come up with make or break decisions based on them.

I thought the Fiio X5-II and Cayin N5 sounded great but I couldn't bear to use the primitive interface (especially scanning through 200GB+ of albums). I'm really hoping that the DX80 interface is as snappy as Cowon or AK. That's my deciding factor.

Any idea if we will be able to rename or number tracks on the dx80 screen while using it?

Are there any daps out there on which this is possible anyway
confused.gif

I have never come across a dap so far with this function, all kind of retagging has always be done on my pc

You would need some type of keyboard to change this and not sure of the need. I haven't read of any dap that does this.
