Grado GH-1 Discussion

Well, here I am late to the party. The GH1 cans arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered them. The parcel was so small that I thought that they couldn't be in the original box... but no! The pizza box has been replaced by... er... something else. The workmanship seems impeccable (Oh, thank God!). I can't see a serial number.

Hi all.

Just dropping by to greet fellow GH-1 owners and the curious. I, as everyone else here love the GH-1 sound. The reason I managed to get it was the debacle on RS-1e actually causing me to delay my purchase until reports on GH-1 started to come out.

I pair my GH-1 with project ember. A lovely pairing. Grados really shine on tube amps.

Here's a pic of my set.

When I take a flashlight and look in the back of my GH1 cups, I see what looks like 11L and 11R written on the wood. I wonder if this is a SN# or just a way to identify matching cups in production? Since Grado does put SN#'s on their other wooden phones, I tend to think it is a SN# as it would seem that they would want to have a way to identify a limited edition phone.

Oh you lucky soul. The picture of the blue box which I have seen a few times on Head-Fi is enought to cause heart flutter.

Custom Cable have one left. :smiling_imp:

OK. I am breaking in the new GH1 with a varied diet. To begin with... "Dreams of New Orleans" by Wycliffe Gordon and co. Then a disc of Dvorák symphonies. Now the last disc of Solti's Götterdämmerung (Wagner). There is already a little more bass.

The only thing that I don't like is the cable, which is kinked and less sturdy than the one that came with my RS1i/e and PS500.

[Edit] In case I was talking rubbish, I have carefully compared the cables on the Grados listed above and, I must say, they look the same. However, the cables on my older Grados (RS1i/e and PS500) are more sturdy and robust to handle. When I received them, the cables just unfolded happily and without kinks. The GH1 is kinked. Kinky? Gekinket? Does anyone recable Grados?

The GH-1 has a wonderful synergy with my Questyle QP1R. Airy and smooth sounding plus lots of detail.

Congratz, the GH-1 are great headphones, they sound good, look good, and with the G-cush I think that they not only sound better, but they are one, if not THE, most comfortable Grados.

They're light, and the headband  has more padding than most Grados, so when you add the G-cush, you barely feel them on your head.

Oh! and fyi, the GH-1 were never shipped in the pizza box.

It's tempting. I think I want a pair. However I have a zillion other purchases going on right now. It's a matter of thinking time though, and researching and worrying about what to buy.

I am deciding between two electro-acoustic guitars at the moment. At least I have narrowed it down to two though. Plus other stuff to get sorted. Headphones have slid waaaayyy down my priorities.

Are ''electro acoustic guitars'' acoustics that have a plug on them?

A guy I know was proud to show me his new electric guitar. It's an Ibanez FP-70 I think it is, it's got flower patterns on it anyway, he paied over $4000 for it.

I was curious to get your opinion on something. My only complaint, and it's a small one, about the Grados that I've heard, is that I think they do their best at medium to low volume.
...

It's probably a good thing that I like the Grados so much because it will help me preserve my hearing. If I got an ultra high end amp setup with something like Sennheisers or any of the planars, Audeze etc., I'd spend all my time cranking the hell out of them and blowing my eardrums. With the Grados I just want to listen to acoustics and chill. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

I'm glad to read this. I dislike 'phones and speakers that don't come into their sound until you've cranked them up. When you have "advanced ears" (read: prematurely aged by headbanging in cars) like I do, you protect them as much as possible--I appreciate gear that can be listened to at lower levels.

The GH1s can't arrive soon enough!

Felicidades on your new headphones, Amictus.
I do not (yet) have the GH-1's, so I can't fully
share this experience.

I hope they're as great as everyone says they are,
and enjoy them.

Greatly.

As a huge Grado fan and hearing about all the positive reviews about the GH1 (and of course it's limited offering) I've decided to purchase a pair even though I literally just received my new RS1e two day's ago. I was planning on waiting till later this year but I've been having that nagging feeling in the back of my mind that they will be gone by then.

How do you feel about the RS1e?
