Cayin N5 DAP - Product Info (Post #2), Resources (Post #3) and Discussion

OMG, my N5 shipped today from Hong Kong via Hong Kong Post.  The estimated delivery date is 5-24 November according to Amazon.  I hope this isn't the real estimate of when I will get my DAP.

Does anyone have experience with Hong Kong Post as far as how long it takes them to ship to California in the States?

I've heard that HK Post does not accept devices with built in batteries.
So is it really HK Post ?

Got to briefly listen to the N5 at a french shop, was impressed.
The wheel and dynamic are really good.
Now I just have to find out if this player is well shielded and have a good battery (unlike the DX90) and I might get one!

I guess you ordered your N5 from DIGITAL.852 on Amazon. I bought mine from them too (but on eBay). Shipping was free but really quick: shipped on 09/29 from Hong Kong, delivered on 10/02 to USA (IL).

Hope you get yours soon

Yeah I got mine from DIGITAL 852 but via Amazon.  On Ebay it says free shipping via DHL but they sent it through Hong Kong Post via Amazon.  I like Amazon due to their outstanding return policy.  Ebay's return policy is up to the seller.

I had an outstanding return experience through Amazon when I bought the Dunu DN-1000 and didn't like the fit of them and sent it back.  Easiest return I've ever made online.

Do you remember if they sent your N5 via DHL or Hong Kong Post?

I am on the fence about buying one of these.

I am using the ASG2.5 primarily with an Aegis and I find the combination very nice.

I am a little worried the n5 may sound a little smooth for the darker ASG's.

I really would like to buy one, as having a flat phone all the time is annoying, but yeah.

Hmmmm :p

Bloody hell! The new 2.0 firmware has the N5 nipping at the X5's heels.

The N5 is warmer than it used to be, with much better bass. That metallic sound I didn't like is gone! Their signatures are now VERY close to one another.

I feel the X5 is just a bit cleaner. Its depth is notably deeper, while its width is only wider by a very small margin.

Cayin's N5 is perhaps too much like the X5 for it's own good. Personally, I like warmer-sounding equipment... to a point. There are others, though, who prefer brighter gear. The N5 will no longer suit their needs. It's as warm as the X5 Classic now, while not quite matching it's sound quality.

It's bloody close, though. You take into account the superior build and dead-sexy look, and it's a mean draw. The Cayin N5 also has deep sleep like the X5ii.

I would feel confident recommending the N5 over the X5 Classic. Those who have the X5ii will need to make that comparison.

----------------------------------

Balanced out is still noisy. Perhaps it's less so than before... not sure.

What's super weird is that Balanced out has not been touched by the warmer sig that singled-ended now sports. It's every bit as bright as before. Still sounds pretty darn good, though. Unfortunately for Cayin, I must compare it to the Balanced-Out on my AK120ii, which is a much, much smoother, more natural character.

In balanced, using Angie, the N5 is so bright and detailed it gets a little sibilant on naturally bright records. This is not a pleasant experience for folk like me who are allergic to sibilance. :)
