Cayin N5 DAP - Product Info (Post #2), Resources (Post #3) and Discussion

Might want to check this thread on Lowyat every once in awhile: LINK.

Thanks, nmatheis for the link! I guess, there should be 2.1 V fixed voltage for Line out of N5 instead of 1.7 V specified in the table.
Regarding the 4 digital filter modes to be used in N5: I assume Cayin N5 uses 4 standard digital filters of AKM 4490EQ dac, which are so called Sharp Roll-off, Short Delay Sharp Roll-off, Slow Roll-off and Short Delay Slow Roll-off (described in http://www.akm.com/file.jsp?id=273638 pages 11-17)
P.S: haven't seen the TRANCE's post:), so there are 5 preset DF modes in AKM 4490, I thought the fifth one was user-defined...

^ The AK4490 comes with 5 digital filters listed below, Cayin seems to have implemented 4 of them, (Cayin prob left out the first one on the list). But I would like to see the super slow roll-off also added by Cayin, as it is Akm's newest filter!

AKM4490 of five filter works, all have applications in N5.

Will be trying this out this weekend! I'm excited!
Haven't tried Cayin's last player or any of the amps so this will be my first taste of Cayin. Hopefully it'll be a positive one.
I'll be trying the coaxial out to feed my Hugo most of the time but I will also try the headphone out (hopefully). My NAD Viso HP50's are broke so I'm not sure which headphone to take to audition in atm...
Cheers.

Looking forward to hearing what you think of it. What's your current DAP or audio rig?

All my gear is listed in my signature (or whatever it's called below your post). I'm using a DX50 atm.
I really think it's the bottle-neck in my current system because it's got the smallest soundstage of all the DAPs, computers, etc I've fed the Hugo digital data with.
Its got one of the best bass but I think it's due to the DX50 having a coaxial output instead of optical output. USB input also has less bass than the coaxial input and has a different tonality than the coaxial but has bigger soundstage which I really need.

General assumption is that feeding the Hugo coaxial is better than optical and USB when properly done so I will have to test it out and compare the N5's to the DX50's coaxial out.

Like I've said though, I really do not have an idea what headphone to take to audition this since my HP50's broke and my HD650's are probably not the best for show conditions.
I also have Grados, Mad Dogs, etc but I'm not familiar enough with any of them to make a correct judgement about the sound.
Heck, in the end it's show conditions (it'll be an audio show) so I can make weak impressions if not any. It'll be fun though.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Very excited about the DAP.
LOVED my N6 and only parted with it due to its massive size (wanted something a little easier to carry around) and because it was AMAZING with my Ref1's but a little bright for some other cans.

I love Cayins work so looking forward to hearing this gem.
