FiiO X5 2nd gen Impressions and Discussion thread

Just tried that and still nothing. Not sure why it stopped working. The only thing I can think of that I did is I switched it to DAC mode and used it with my laptop for a while, but I don't see how that could have messed it up.
Thanks for the suggestion though. I actually had no clue there was a way to reset it.

Not sure what else to suggest. Perhaps FiiO will chime in here with a suggestion.

Question for you all, had my X5ii a little over a year now, and just recently the line out has been giving me problems, music will be playing, then makes a sound like the connections are dirty or loose, and pauses the player. Currently trying a tiny amount of De-oxit brushed on the plug of an extension cable and working it a bit. Not sure if it will help, seems more like somethings loose or about to break.
Anyone else have a problem like this, and what did you do to remedy it, if you were able to??

This has probably been answered but I would first try another cable to see if it my be the cable or output.
The output on DAPs are very fragile.

I should also include that I think I might be a bit treble sensitive....

I am as well.
For me it has a lot to do with companies brick walling their remasters.
For headphone listening this makes it almost impossible to get a good sound with the volume up.

The X5ii is a great DAP and not many others, if any, have complained about it being bright.
No player, no matter of the cost, can make a harsh recording/mastering sound good.
At least the X5ii has an EQ to tame the offending frequencies.

Did you press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to reset it?

There is a manual posted on the Fiio site.
You can also contact them there for any suggestions or warranty work.

I've had my x5 for about a week now, and last night it turned off and now refuses to turn on. I got it to turn on once, but it shut off as if the battery had died even though I had it on a charger. The light on the side still comes on, as if to show it charging, and I even left it on the charger overnight and in the morning it appeared to be fully charged but still won't turn on. Is there some sort of reset button like on the fiio x1 that I am missing? I hate to have to file for a warranty claim or return it after only one week.

Dear PL4Y3R 0N3,

If the player cannot be turned on after pressing the Power button, the first thing to do is to check if the unit is running out of power or if the charger you use fits the requirement (DC output,  voltage: 5V, current: 0.5A or above).
If it cannot be turned on after being charged for some time or even fully charged, try the following methods (They also work for the problem of freezing).

Since the X5 2nd gen don't have a Reset hole, the only way to try is to force shut-down by holding the power button for around 15 seconds then turn it on again.

If this methods fail to help still, please try to contact your seller about that which may be more convenient. But if the seller fails to help, please contact us again attach the receipt of your X5II.

Best regards

Thank you very much for your help. It seems as I may have a bad battery, as even though it appeared to be fully charged in the morning, by the end of the day it was dead even though I could not get it to turn on once. I will be in contact with the seller soon, and I very much appreciate fiio's amazing customer service. Hopefully I can have this problem resolved soon, and have a new player in my hand by the time my Phantom Master 6 arrives.

So... Update I guess.
My x5ii has begun working again. I'm not sure how or why it is working again so suddenly, but it is. I may actually still return it, as what I was experiencing is most certainly not normal behavior, but for the time being I will monitor it until I am sure that it is back to full working order.
What would have caused this strange issue? I thought it may have been the battery connection, or maybe just the battery itself, but with it suddenly working again I am unsure if it was defective or not.
I guess it should come as no surprise. I tend to have this affect on all electronics.

*edit* And broken again. Not 10 hours later and it won't turn on again. Last night I turned it off but left it off my charger because it was almost fully charged and I saw no reason to plug it in overnight, but this morning it wouldn't turn back on. there is absolutely no reason for the battery to be dead, so I can only assume this is part of the defect. I just don't understand what could be causing something like this.

If you can still return it for a exchange or refund do so as soon as possible.
If not open a ticket for repairs.
That is not normal.

For sure. Returning it tomorrow if I can. I don't blame fiio and I understand that these things happen, but the entire thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. I think I'll go back to my x1 for a bit, and get another player after a good bit more research.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me out. I really appreciate your help. :D

can somebody compare sound of X5 2nd and Astell Junior? I read about it a lot and i had Fiio x3, which uses same Wolfson DAC, so i get some idea, but i would like to read opinion of somebody, who compared them side by side. Thanks

Never had the Jr. but I owned the AK70 before settling in with the FiiO X5/II. Seeing as I use them both coax-out to an external DAC & headphone amp, I can only speak to functional issues.

The X5/II has longer battery life on full charge (approx 8-12 hours vs. 4-ish for the AK); the AK's interface sucks for classical music (my prime genre); AK interface seems clunky and slow relative to the FiiO that also has more capacity with two micro SD card slots for up to 128x2 (256GB) while the AK has 64GB onboard and a single one for up to 128 (192GB total). With my music are all high-res 24/96, 24/192 & DSF files, the extra space is a key consideration for me.

The only time I used either unit as a true portable when traveling was with the venerable Sony MDRV6 cans that sounded equally good with both. Not a critical test, but that's my experience with them.

Bottom line for me is that the FiiO is a better overall unit at almost half the price. I just sold the AK70 and loving the X5/II.

Sorry to just storm into this thread, but I'm not sure where else to turn for help. My Fiio X5 2nd Gen is on its way and I have a 64gb microsd (which I used to use for my X3 btw) and now it's been used in my laptop (WIN10) to provide extra space for my stored files. So this microsd has been constantly plugged in to my laptop lately. I decided to use it for my new Fiio DAP and tried to format it, but the stored date won't disappear from this card, it keeps coming back.

Tried to format with the  X3's internal formatting, GUI32.exe, and EaseUS Patrition Master. I've seen these offered in various forums to deal with such an issue. I don't know much about computers, but it seems to me that my laptop treats this microsd as part of its internal memory. Anyone could help me out on this one?

I really appreciate your time reading this. Hope someone can help. Thanks.

There is a massdrop offer on X5II with limited number of units

Some of you might be interested in it!

I don't know for what price X5ii runs in USA, but for the price is very good, and X5ii is still a great DAP in my opinion. Probably the best DAP overall that I tried to date.

Well, thank you anyway, it turns out, the microsd was faulty. Back to the warehouse already. However, I just got my X5 2nd gen and can't make it play through coax hooked up to the Chord Mojo. The signal doesn't get through, b/c the mojo can't see any signal coming in. Same setup with my old X3 via coax works flawlessly though. Anyone encountered such an issue or my X5 will be faulty as well? :frowning2:
