Lotoo PAW 5000: Impressions Thread

it is a great product but sadly they aren't too focused on overseas market. To be honest they were not too keen in expanding overseas at that time.

It's a sea of contradiction because I live not too far from the city I live in's main location for everything electronic (department stores are often made up of masses of small retailers within - more like masses of market stalls in a multi-floor department store), and yet when I went to look for any retailers at where I thought they'd most likely be, their contracts had obviously all ended and been kicked out in favour of a Best Buy type of large retailer taking over that area. That's a huge loss of multiple retailers selling all manner of white goods. Where they've gone to is anyone's guess and they've probably closed up forever or gone online. Which here is the problem, because over a relatively short space of time, customers have jumped on board the online shopping trolley leaving most outlets to follow suit because they can't compete with online prices having less or no overheads. Now generally, most customers are socially materialistic buyers in that they must have the latest iPhone or lose face. That they listen to music is a given, but that they demand & listen to audiophile quality music, never heard of anything so crazy (generally). If I asked anyone did they know what FLAC was, they wouldn't have a clue, as they re-buried their noses into their large screen phones to watch a movie via standard IEM's.

This is backed up by my going to an audiophile exhibition in London and one here. No comparison when it comes to the customers side. Sure there are retailers here and there dealing with large sized audiophile equipment, but their price reflects the quantity of customers they have. And money is more likely to be spent in this area for home entertainment and entertaining, than on a mobile player that they think their phone is the same.

This all makes buying something by being able to check it out physically in front of you harder and harder and so I don't understand how they can only think to focus on the home market (don't think about "If only I can get to 1% of the market" theories please). Buying online is still a concern for even locals being ripped off, only they're none the wiser that they have been as there's nowhere to actually go to to compare, but the demand for such white goods I'm sure is miniscule, in comparison to say the Japanese. They are chalk and cheese. Nothing ever adds up here

I've updated my firmware and have absolutely no idea what's been altered.  Oh well, still works!

Not very confidence building when updates are supposed to fix and add new features to improve your pleasure etc. LOL

Let me know if they can oblige your request. I'm interested as well. tks

Finally got my short cable, it sounds way better than the other cable I was using, sysconcepts use insane multi standard fibre I think, makes an audible difference to me. I was going to get a perfect fit one but they are more expensive and since I acquired a Mojo I think that will be my main dac, probably. So I've ordered a better fitting one for the mojo, I'll post that when I receive it. The Paw 5k remains a great transport.

They stack quite nicely. Could let me know which cable specifications you chose when ordering off their website?

I'm assuming this is the link - http://www.sysconcept.ca/product_info.php?products_id=349&osCsid=12pr0qgt9r73g3k1kqh6sb4ns0

Yep, that's the link but Contact them, tell them you need a custom optical cable for:

PAW 5000 DAP (mini optical out, max 24/96) connecting to Chord MOJO (toslink in). 2.4cm
c2c 45deg. angle. 2.2mm fiber

2.2mm is what I have, 5mm is stronger but looks thicker. They can advise on how to purchase and how many cores you need, top notch service.

6.1.0.7 firmware is out. Mostly bugs fix this time...

1, exfat file system, read files, and accelerate the speed of the file list generated.
2, to solve the list list, "Folder", "cover" on the long press button, can not enter the problem
3, if flac own sub-track with the track information, while a CUE file exists, then the points will not be added to the list of rail track repeat.
4, aif no problem scanning to scan files when you modify the cover.
5, the battery charging error prompted adjusted
