@H20Fidelity, @tomscy2000: My hat's off to you gentlemen, thanks a lot for those super fast answers. I guess I already kind of knew it, just needed some pushing in the right direction.

It was probably me who you read recommending the T1 amp with DN-1000.

Yes indeed.

The iPhone 4S will be fine. If you would like a refined source for your iPhone, try an integrated mobile-friendly DAC/amp. There should be numerous members who can recommend a good one at a good price with good performance.

Thanks for that.

A83, FLC8 and AX60 are currently the most expensive IEMs at their store. Let's hope they don't price the 2000J any higher than those.
I remembered the last time lmue had a 18% sales promotion including Dunu.
If lmue has the same promotion again, DN2000J will be a very attractive buy.

Ahh yes the FLC8. I really like that one. It's SGD430 but the DN2000 isn't far behind at SGD396 though. Chances are that the DN2kj will reach FLC 8 price I think. Still holding out for that new product launch discount lol. Or failing that Black Friday.. Trying not to buy another IEM before the Trinity Delta lands urghh..

I can get a good deal on a new FLC8....I am curious of the sound. I have read some reviews and sound like what I would like. Do they use a 2-pin connector?

Tbh they can sound like anything you like, having 36 permutations. The connector is 2 pin but it's proprietary I think. The pitch is different from the normal 2 pin ones.

I am waiting on the 2000J but those caught my eye and then the 2-pin connector really made me curious as I have a Silver Dragon 2-pin cable.

Yes, it's TF10 compatible (pins and polarity)....I'm eyeing too.;)

Is that so??? That would open up the cable compatibility considerably. subguy812 how good deal is it? Hm maybe better to pm before we derail the thread.

The DN-2000J isn't available in Taiwan at the moment --- only the DN-2000 and Titan 1 are available; from what I've heard, the DN-2000J will only be available in late June, around or after the time the Massdrop deal ships. They do sell DUNU products at a local market discount here, but I don't envision the DN-2000J dipping lower than the $305 it's being offered at right now on Massdrop. DUNU isn't actually especially popular in Taiwan, as many Taiwanese tend to prefer Japanese or US/European brands. What do you enjoy most about the DN-1000? The DN-2000J should be a significant uptick in refinement over the DN-1000.

Thanks for the insight.

The DN-1000s have better overall detail than all of the notably lesser IEMs I have owned.   Improved overall detail would be good.  I would be interested in knowing how the bass might compare in terms of impact.  So based on what I have read there should be significantly quicker more accurate bass.  But how about bass impact between the 1k and 2kJ?

Musically, I listen to a lot of progressive rock, progressive metal, and some instrumental guitarists.  Spock's Beard, Marillion, Dream Theater, Kamelot, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc  So that's often the common range of genres I'd be listening to..

I... don't really listen to rock, so I can't help you when it comes to genre-specific nuances.

Bass impact on the 2000J should be lower than the 1000, but that's just a guesstimate, since I haven't compared and haven't listened to the 1000 in a while (several months). But it's not like bass impact disappears. It's there. It'll hit when it needs to. Sub-bass is there too. It's just that the bass is so well-controlled that at first you be confused where the bass went, but when you compare the 2000J to other IEMs that seemingly have good bass, you'll realize that the other IEMs sound almost bloated and loose compared to the 2000J, and yet, at the same time the 2000J still renders everything. I have little doubt the DN-2000J is a massive upgrade over the DN-1000 in the bass department, regardless of impact. I've heard a lot of TOTL stuff, and the 2000J's bass is right up there with them. This is next level stuff compared to the DN-1000.

Since you're in Taipei at the moment, go to a few of the better headphone shops here (JM-Plus, Hi-Fi Music), and listen to the high-end stuff. JM-Plus has the K3003, A83, XBA-Z5, and a ton of CIEM demos from lots of brands. Hi-Fi Music has the DN-2000, the Roxanne, JH13FP demo, etc.

Normally, I would actually be willing to meet with you, but this month and the next are brutal for me, and I have next to zero free time.

Thanks again for the insight.
My challenge in going to the shops is not speaking any Chinese
blink.gif
so it might be a bit more challenging unless I find a colleague from the office that was into audio gear and would go with the limited time I have.  Although I looked up HiFi Music and they are just 3 miles from my hotel or office

They both have store personnel who speak English; not perfectly fluent, but well enough to communicate fully. Hi-Fi Music is out of the way from public transit, so I recommend you taxi there, lest you enjoy being momentarily lost. JM-Plus is a stone's throw from a major subway station and bus confluence. Anyway, PM me if you have questions.

How does UERM compare with DN-2000J?

I don't consider myself to be an audiophile and all my purchases are aimed at providing me with a WOW feeling when listening to music. I mainly listen to complex EDM with a lot of layerings and attention to detail, ambient, classical/opera, jazz and funk music. I like details and warmth in my music. I've been purchasing 150-200$ IEM for quite a while now and I'm facing a dilema at the moment. I own a pair of Dunu 1000 that I love (even though a little bit boomy and lacking WOW effect with mids) and I was planning on pairing them with an AMP, read Tralucent T1 as I heard they team very well. My source is an iPhone 4S and I trust it to be decent enough for me.
My question to you sound experts: should I go with the Tralucent T1 -or even a DAC/AMP combo when I listen to music on my laptop i.e. 20% of the time- or should I join the massdrop and sell my DNK when I receive the 2000J? What do you think would be the best eat for me an my taste?

Many thanks in advance.

While the T1 is a nice-sounding amp, its gain is set way too high for practical volumes with very sensitive IEMs like the DN-1000/2000/2000J. You will not be able to get over the volume imbalance at reasonable listening volumes (~75 dBA), so I do not recommend the T1 as an amplifier. The iPhone 4S will be fine. If you would like a refined source for your iPhone, try an integrated mobile-friendly DAC/amp. There should be numerous members who can recommend a good one at a good price with good performance.

The biggest and most dramatic change for you would be to buy the DN-2000J in lieu of the DN-1000. Headphones/earphones changes are far more dramatic changes than any DAC/amp/cable change you can ever do. The DN-2000J will provide you with the bass control lacking in the DN-1000 and the resolution and transparency of the mids.

Amen to that!
