Official FiiO X1 beta firmware download and discussion thread--FW1.61: added ReplayGain, and library search function

out of the box, category search was useless.
only one album would get indexed, and favourites didn't work.

thanks for this beta, solved my issues.

I'm just guessing it this was the fix that made the device useful:
5. Non-music files generated when a card is accessed by an Apple / Linux computer are now hidden and do not affect browsing

now hanging for a solution to the 5800 ceiling

Now I'm happy with my modded FW: large readable letters, good contrast, large symbols...
the only thing I'm missing is a timer what shows the album time and the count down of the time left to the end of it
like now for the single titles. I have had this on CD and MD players and it was comfortable for scheduling.

Well, the point is that i want to use my microSD with exFAT because it is the native filesystem for the card. I hope this issue will be resolved : the transfer speed is better with exFAT.

Tip: You could, in the low load state, the screen just flashes once and the blue LED, move to the red color? The fact is blinking 20 in 20 seconds indicating the low power state, means that it is boring.

I'm trying to update my media lib after installing 1.22b and it gets up to around 700-800 files before it hangs/white screens on me. It works fine with firmware 1.1.

I'm looking over the forum threads but didn't find anything much about hanging during the media lib update. Has anyone else run into this before, please?

Thank You!
First, let me thank FiiO for creating something that allows me to get away from Apple!  (At least with my DAP.)

I'll admit I've had reservations about the device out of the box:
  1. Support for exFat (Windows 7 doesn't even have an option to format Fat 32 these days.) FIXED in the beta FW!  Thanks!
  2. It's a little slow on transfer speed (To be expected though.)
  3. No bluetooth--but that's not really the point with this device--though it's a nice feature for when you travel in your car.
  4. Doesn't support as much space as my iPod classic--that said my iPod classic doesn't sound as great nor does it support half the formats the X1 does.

But all those reservations vanished after finding these forums, this thread, and the Dapper thread. The support for this device is so encouraging--I've decided to stick with it.  I love the amazing sound quality and the UI is pretty darn good!

My Setup:
I have the Gold X1 with a Samsung 128GB, Class 10, UHS-1.

Firmware Suggestions:
I do have a suggestions list if you're open to the ideas (this list is also based partially on reading other posts in these threads):

  1. A couple more theme options? Add options for "black on white" and "white on black" themes.  I love orange/amber theme.  Never get rid of it!
  2. Battery Indicator Color Options: Add green color to battery indicator as default?  Or maybe just offer it in a couple of the themes?  For other themes the white might be better... anyway, it's great that advanced users can customize their own firmware...  Though, I doubt it's recommended. /ramble
  3. Device Capacity: Add support for 256GB Cards?
  4. Catalog Capacity: Increase number of cataloged items. 5800 is the max?  Or is this just a limitation of the hardware at this point?
  5. Album Art: Fit/Stretch:  Option to scale album art so that the entire jpg may be seen in it's entirety (possibly using theme color where no art is displayed.)
  6. A fourth Key-Lock Option: When in locked mode, rather than have the music pause, could we have the option to have a single short-click of the center button unlock the screen instead of having to hold it down?
  7. Playlists:  Playlists appear to be broken altogether.

Possible Bug?

Track listings in albums out of order.   Some of my album's tracks are labeled as such:

1-01 Name of Track 1 on Disc 1
1-02 Name of Track 2 on Disc 1
1-03 Name of Track 3 on Disc 1
2-01 Name of Track 1 on Disc 2
2-02 Name of Track 2 on Disc 2
2-03 Name of Track 3 on Disc 2

However, when I browse albums to play they show up in a weird order:

1-01 Name of Track 1 on Disc 1
2-01 Name of Track 1 on Disc 2
2-02 Name of Track 2 on Disc 2
1-02 Name of Track 2 on Disc 1
1-03 Name of Track 3 on Disc 1
2-03 Name of Track 3 on Disc 2

Is there something going wrong when the X1 indexes these tracks that they don't show up in proper numeric order?  It's like it's ignoring the 1- and 2- altogether and it seems to only happen on albums who's filenames begin with 1- or 2-.

Could this be also updated/fixed in a firmware update?

Thanks again for the beta FW!  Cheers.

Thank You for your firmware. Currently we can jump to the next/prev track by volume keys long pressing. Can You add functionality for jumping to next/prev folder by pressing the same keys for 5 seconds for example?

My X1 was shipped with FW1.2.  Playlists are too complicated for me, but I was looking forward to getting the player to recognize Genres properly.  Unfortunately, FW1.22 didn't make a difference with the Genre problem: e.g., tracks I have labelled "Swing" in iTunes still come out as "Fast Fusion" on the X1; "Bebop" is instead "Latin."  Strangely, some of my labels do come through (e.g., "Post-Bop").

I also found that FW1.22 crashed the player during the library update many times.  So I have gone back to FW1.1 for now.  I look forward to improvements.

Use a decent tag editor like mp3tag. The issue is actually itunes itself (plus wherever you sourced your files from). Chances are that they have multiple genre options include the way they have been tagged. Vs evert with X11 is to reduce thus to a single genre tag option.

Out of curiosity have you explored the key-lock settings in [Setttings]-->[Key-Lock-settings]?

You can choose to enable the skip buttons when the unit is locked.  That should enable you to do what you need to do.

Cheers.
