Audeze EL-8: The EL-8 is a must-hear at CES 2015

That being said... iPhone users are generally a much more affluent demographic.

+1

I think that's quite clearly the reason. If there is enough demand, the Android cable will follow. It's also not a difficult DIY, assuming the new plugs are available or can be refitted.

exactly, its all sales speak.  He treads lightly in anything meaningful in regards to sound.  He also said something like the "most technically sound in its price range" or something to that effect.. still, I am interested.

Jude's qualifiers and somewhat reserved praise definitely made me raise an eyebrow. I'm also a bit worried that his more open and less lush comments might translate to real world lack of bass, but who knows!

well one thing is translateable right now. "nobody he's shown the design to, has been less than enthusiastic about its looks." and then he repeats "not one person i've shown it to, has so far had any qualms about the idea of wearing a headphone that looks like this out and about".

everybody likes the design, including the wood, on the open-back version.

These specs suggest that they would still need more power than an average DAP can provide on its own. It's also a bit surprising that the closed back is slightly less sensitive than the open-back.

I'll patiently wait a few months for the reviews to come in, if the closed-backs would have excellent sound and isolation reviews, and there's a good matching portable amp, then I might get it later in the year. The quick announcement hype is always dangerous to go by, regardless of the reputation of the company.

Clearly, he hasn't shown the headphones to many people lol ... Because the design impressions from this thread alone speaks volumes about the look and how dorky one would look wearing them (including Jude in the video).

Exactly - and we must remember that this website is here to sell products and create hype, rather than to objectively review things. I love the community aspect which allows for fair reviews and opinion sharing, but at its core, it's about moving products. And it's most dangerous for pre-released headphones, because the hype is pure and there's no unbiased reviews to go by.

I remember just a few months ago the glowing review the Mo-Fis received (their name is flashing as a sponsor at the bottom of this page). But once actual reviews started to come in, it became apparent that the initial hype was not fully justified...

One could say the same for the MDR-Z7 hype train

4 variations...  Would be interesting to set up a poll. I don't know if that's possible on this forum.

Nice renders!

Now, how about some burl-wood veneer, or distressed ox-blood leather?
Chrome finish/polished gimbals?

My favourite so far is the dark wood, closely followed by the gun-metal/grey.

Looking forward to SQ impressions, what's the bass like?

if the EL-8 can't be re-skinned daily to match the color of the Dr. Martens boots I'm wearing, won't buy them.
no matter how great they sound.

Apparently Audeze are also releasing a DAC/amp. I saw the specs earlier and it seemed strangely light on power.

Dark wood is the best by far. Then I like silver, black and light wood least. Conveys that these headphones may in fact be weak-sauce. They are definately not weak-sauce
