On your earphones.
It's no coincidence that not everyone notices the difference. Unless suddenly part of X2 holders go deaf

Someone should take some graphs and then then it'll be clearer...

Someone can upload X2 update tool to another server, because downloading on official website doesn't work.

I installed V7.0 and didn't notice any difference between V6.0 and V7.0.  But then I started comparing the V7.0 to my iPod Touch 2nd Gen.  To my surprise, the iPod Touch sounded much, much better than the V7.0.  Cleaner, smoother sound. The V7.0 sounded tinny, bright and harsh in comparison.  So I immediately installed V5.0 afterwards.  Not sure if there is a difference between V5.0 and V7.0, but I may have noticed a slight improvement in sound with V5.0 (or is it just me trying to justify the effort I put into downloading and installing V5.0).
Nevertheless, I compared V5.0 with the iPod Touch, and the iPod still sounded better.  Smoother, cleaner and less bright, with possibly deeper bass.
Is this a new discovery, or are my ears just changing?

I took some measurements of V6 vs V7. Played a WAV reference song for 4 minutes and averaged the frequency response. While the source is not a scientific and flat reference sound file, this provides some comparison and materialized proof to argue about.

This is tricky though, as I see that 'NOR' equalizer on V6 has been removed/renamed to 'NONE'. I'm not really sure if these two are exactly equal or not.

Any way, following graphs are taken by keeping vol level 20 and connected through line in of my Creative SBX Pro.  Right click -> Open link in new tab for larger resolution.

By the way, while going from A to B (V6 to V7) I experienced little to no difference, but today I came back B to A and I see a difference, mainly in low end and the dynamics. I'm inclined to think that V6 is better sounding : )

I want a third revision, I ordered two players in Tennmak - for me and brother.
Tony said that over the last 3 months, only 2% have been returned by buyers due to defects. The xDuoo makes high quality!

Great work mate! Whilst it's not a FR sweep, it still has more merit than human hearing which is influenced by emotion, memory and expectation bias. You can see that the is in fact a deviation in the response which may translate to why we are hearing a decrease in dynamics and bass tightness. My theory is that the newly introduced upper/mid bass region leads to elevated distortion rated which resonate through the rest of the frequencies. I do hope the xDuoo see what we are saying in this thread and act quickly to bring back the original EQ back for V8 or even just V7.1.

We're nearly there! All I want is the original sound quality with a play all function. They can get rid of everything else as far as I'm concerned!

The biggest difference was between v2 and v5.

So i have x2 arriving tommarrow. Which is best firmware to start with as far as sound? Is there a shuffle option in folders. . As in shuffle all songs inside the folder)

IMO V5 is best for sound. Yes you can shuffle all in one folder. But a true shuffle all for all songs on the card regardless of folder structure is only available on V7 which doesn't have the same sound capabilities as it's predecessor versions.
