An interesting and fair review of ZX2 has been published on WhatHiFiSoundAndVision UK Sep 2015
I am not sure if its ok to share just the 2 pages of this article. If someone confirms it, I will share this with you guys.

so I got mine today, and straight out of the box I was already impressed...  and I see you guys said this one needs a lot of burn in, I am not gonna leave it on at night and stuff, ill just listen, very interested to hear the differences tho

. I tested this on my Fostex TH-900's and Oppo PM-1's. especially impressed right now with the PM-1 combo, they sound extremely smooth together.

Hi,

Anybody here get Sony Content Transfer to work on a Mac? I installed it, but it won't recognize the device and keeps asking me to connect. Is it because I'm running the El Capitan beta?

The drag and drop method works just fine, but I would love to find a way to transfer playlists on to the ZX2.

Thanks!

Eglobalcentral UK is selling the ZX2 for £649.99 and Eglobalcentral (Europe) is selling it for €879,99. Doesn't make much sense to import into the UK from Europe despite the weak Euro. Thought some here might want to know.

[mod edit] fixed the eye bleeding colour! :)

Just brace yourself. It'll only get worse before it gets better.

Wait. I didn't mean that to sound bad...

congrats. glad to hear you're satisfied.

i'm here to report the same. mine came in earlier this afternoon. fired it up, plug in my wi-fi, google, and various other settings. listened to the same tracks first. was nice of sony to include some sample hi-res stuff out the gate. really like that celtic track.

while listening to that, i installed spotify. felt almost dirty doing it and even dirtier spending a significant amount of time listening to various tracks (inherently lossy). i will say that even with spotify music, there was a discernible difference (in a good way).

my initial thoughts on the sound:

mids and highs really stand out. although my headphones are closed, i felt that there was definitely a soundstage with some space to spare. the lows appear a bit more hidden than when i listen to the same track on my iphone 5s (using the same hp - sennheiser hd 360 pro). i did notice greater separation between instruments. a clean sound without being too sterile.

some of the music tested from spotify included tracks from stevie wonder's talking book, zep's houses of the holy, connan mockasin's forever dolphin love, winehouse's back to black, steely dan's aja, can's future days, public enemy's fear of a black planet, grizzly bear's shields, floyd's meddle, and d'angelo's black messiah.

after the spotify session, i transferred my 24/96 rip of dark side of the moon (1973 original stereo mix) from my immersion box set. not surprised it sounded great as it truly is one of the greatest 'recordings', but wow. such a nice option to have when listening on the go. fantastic.

looking forward to transferring my entire flac library over. the decision (made eight years ago) to rip my CDs to that format is paying off yet again. i maintained a separate mp3 library for portables. the flac was for both archival and home listening (squeezebox) purposes. never thought then that i would be using flac on a portable. :)

i'm wondering how much more the experience will improve not only through the 'burn-in' process, but also when my new sennheiser momentum 2.0 (wired) cans come in tomorrow.

surprised my wallet hasn't given me a n*tshot (yet)...

p.s. - i need to get a micro sd card. any recommendations? is it limited to 128 GB? if not, what is the limit? thanks again for all the useful information.

1/ upgrades cables or different metal acoustic characteristic
2/ burn-in

1/ yes, different material sounds different :D....
2/ burn in

Regarding transferring playlists to your ZX2 with the Sony Content Transfer app on a Mac:

1) If you are using iTunes, you drag your playlist icon from iTunes into the Content Transfer app.  It will then transfer each song into a playlist on your ZX2.  Do not drag songs to the Content Transfer app -- that won't transfer your playlist.

2) Get ready for missing album art, although it is possible to add the art later.

3) Unfortunately with a Mac, you cannot sync your playlist later when you have more songs and you want to add them to your playlist on your Walkman.  This is a major bummer.  Instead, you have to delete your playlist and all of the music from your Walkman and then start over, which for me takes more than four hours as I have 103 Gigs of music.

4) I have tried using JRiver, Pono's app, adding Windows and Parallels to my Mac so I could use Sony's Media Go for Windows, etc., to add playlists to my Walkman but that does not work and it creates a mess on the Mac's desktop that must then be cleaned up -- and if you're not careful you can lose songs.

5) You can use Sony's Content Transfer app later to add songs and albums to your ZX2, but they won't appear in your playlist.  See number 3 above.

I have an earlier post that quotes Sony saying that the ZX2 is not compatible with a Mac for transferring playlists.  It is, sort of, but not as it should be.

Others have responded to my posts about playlists by writing that they don't use them, but I do in my car.  It would be unsafe to fiddle with my ZX2 to open new albums while I am driving (the ZX2 stops playing at the end of an album that is not in the playlist).  I just got back from a two-week vacation that involved my driving 3,600 miles, and having a playlist that kept playing continuously was a must. I created a new playlist just before the vacation to have that option and so it wasn't a problem.  What is a problem is the four hour wait to replace my new playlist at home.

I am using Yosemite, and Sony's Content Transfer app works on my Mac.  See my post above, though, about playlists.

Your problem could be with El Capitan.  Sony might not be compatible with it yet.

Wilderness, thanks for the information. All I can say is... Jeesshh! What we for love of music. I'm a tinkerer myself and doing things like installing Parallels so I can install Windows so I can install Media Go, is not beyond me. So, I thank you for saving me a world of trouble. I think I rather just use the 4 hours to reconstruct playlists on the ZX2 natively. It's really too bad that there is no simple software solution, but the ZX2 is worth the high maintenance. Thanks again.

Glad I could help, although I would have liked to have provided a perfect solution.  At least you won't have to waste many dozens of hours like I did trying to find one.

The best option, slow as it is, is transferring the playlist from the Mac to the ZX2.  iTunes is useful to organize the playlist on the Mac and then I drag and drop the playlist icon into Sony's Content Transfer app.  Four hours later, I have a new playlist on my ZX2 (I just have to remember to first delete the old playlist and all of my music from my ZX2).  It's a lousy process, but it works.

I'm scratching my head over the integrity of Sony...
Sony sells 'Premium Sound' microSD cards costing roughly 4x more than regular microSD cards, and then theres upgrade cables like this: http://store.sony.com/high-performance-portable-audio-cable-for-xba-z5-zid27-MUCM12SM1/cat-27-catid-All-Portable-Audio-Cables
Microsd card must be bollocks, but upgrade-cable could be legit... whats the deal?

I can recommend SanDisk. Got mine a two months ago and it works just fine. And yes, the ZX2 also supports cards with a storage capacity of 200GB (and probably even higher).

Actually ZX2 is a class D amplifier and all class D has weakness against EMI. You can read here. Especially ZX2 where the slot is closer to the capacitors ?
