Official X3 1st gen firmware thread--3.34beta: removed 5800 song limit, play through folders--Happy Chinese New Year!

in 3.30 can the equalizer be disabled? to use only the bass/treble? or it is always enabled? i am in 3.20 and quite happy with it, but would like to try 3.30..

Yup, it can be set to off (that's the default setting)

Unknown artist stays there the whole time for me.

Agreed that it always says unknown artist, but I just meant that the info screen is shown for a few seconds at the beginning of the song (and I have my screen set at only 10s too). Using the Information menu (holding back button) does show all the info correctly. I thought that maybe the problem might be due to the x3 looking for the "album artist" - which I never use - instead of plain "artist", but it didn't make a difference when I added the info.

I see now what you're all referring to by saying on all the time. I have artwork with my files so the description goes away pretty quickly - also hard to read against the artwork backdrop.
Also noticed that sometimes the file name shows at the bottom (minus the ext.) even with the x3 set to show titles.
I'm sure it'll get worked out in due time (apparently the Chinese aren't as meticulous tagging their files so the engineers must be just learning how to read tags

I have downloaded 3.30 this morning. I haven't had much time to try it out. Does the album artwork show correctly? Does the new firmware have ReplayGain? I don'the have the device with me. Just thought someone could tell me.

I guess they wanted to rush 3.30 out as a Christmas gift - would have been better to have issued it as 3.30beta before just to the readers of this thread as a beta test. Lets hope they learn from this - development - development testing (basically the developers test themselves) - alpha testing (for example release it to a group of internal employees for testing) - beta testing (could be us in a beta test thread) - production...

Using the latest beta 3.30. Here is where unknown artists shows for me. For all songs.

Sorry, to me is that a disillusion. Tags "Artist" and "Album Artist" are properly tagged. Nevertheless discovers on the "Now playing screen" - "Unknown Artist". Always not show the title of the album.
(In mode "Browse files").
3.24b is better.

I agree. I noticed that too. That is what I liked about FW 3.0 over 2.1 which was my first firmware. With FW 3.0 you could adjust the volume easily when browsing your music. Now on 3.3, it won't let you do that.

I'm wondering why Fiio keeps on fixing things on one side and introducing issues on the other

Just a short list of previous fixing / new bugs:
- Fixed the mp3 decoding issue (great) and removed the possibility to change the treble/bass in the "quick menu" (bad)
- Fixed gapeless playback (great), but then thy introduced the issue with the cropped covers (bad).
- Introduce the EQ (great) and messed up with artist unknown and volume not adjustable.
- Etc....

I'm wondering what's going to happen then they reduce the 5800 files limit: will we get a black & white screen, will we get the "FFW" functionality removed or what else ?

Sorry for the rant, but I'm a bit fed up of this "short blanket syndrome" with FW upgrades. Fiio, can you please get it right at least once ? Thanks

I still would like to have another selection for shuffle mode. If you select an album, it will shuffle the songs on the album and once it's through all the tracks it does not repeat.

Also Replay gain and album art that shows correctly please..

It is a bit of a pain when a song playing moves on to the next and it happens to be louder. If you are in the middle of browsing through the files, you now can't do anything about the volume. I can control the volume only in the main menu or where the track is playing. I like that it uses the battery indecator from FW3.22b as I much prefer that than the percentage in 3.24b. Other that the sleep timer toggle switch, I feel that I had less issues with 3.22b. I may end up moving back to it.
This firmware also says unknown artist the whole time on most of my tracks. The most stable firmares for me have been 3.0 and 3.22b

i had no problems with FW 3.24b , but im sure they will fix this

I expect a lot of this "Two steps forward, one step back" involves coordinating the X1/X3/X5 FWs. The X1 has a manual volume control (for example) so while making a change for the X1 to the "mother FW", they might have checked the volume control for all 3 models, but not thinking about it while browsing. Now they'll know to check that in the future, because of your comments.
