For those interested and if not mentioned before you can add KaiserTone and Capriccio to the list of respectable music player apps...

Looks like I'll try those out as well!  Thanks for the recommendations.

Edit:  Just saw KaiserTone is $9.99 USD.  I will let others try it out first, hopefully comparing the SQ to Neutron and/or Onkyo before I purchase that one.  Trying out the free version of Capriccio now...fast forward to later this evening...Now that I was able to compare Capriccio with Neutron, I will give the edge to Neutron as have a slightly more coherent and resolving sound.  The navigation is unique with regards to Capriccio, and I like the "Fire" song that accompanies the application, but Neutron and Onkyo are still my recommendations as having exemplary sound signature capabilities.

Anyone run across any premium apps that will play Spotify files? In Android it is not hard to access and play downloaded files, but have not tried Neutron or any others on iOS.

The only app that I have found for Spotify is SpotEQ. Very useful that it has a decent EQ and allows you to organise your playlists alphabetically.

Yes, I have it but never use it. It's annoying that it saves its own files in addition to Spotify files. And it is not sufficiently developed to use on its own.

I don't keep Spotify files offline. Keep them offline in SpotEQ.
I would have thought that it cannot operate on its own as Spotify is a subscription service.

Put head to head my iPhone 6 against a Fiio X5 using Westone W50 and Westone UM3x...the iPhone 6 held superbly. Id say X5 did the soundstaging a pinch better. But overall feel was so close that i'd never bother with the X5 unless i had volume problems.

There is Audyssey which can now stream Spotify files and offers really good SQ.

Thanks for that. I'll check it out when I get home from holiday. Do you know if you can listen to offline files or does it have to be streaming?

What music playback application did you utilize with your iPhone 6?

Accudio Pro has many more EQ tuning profiles but doesn't have spotify...

Also Accudio has a rather inferior interface comparing to Audyssey. It shows you all your library and does not separate which albums are in iTunes cloud and which ones are stored locally thus able to be played. Audyssey immediately takes you to your iTunes albums which are stored in the device without mixing with the cloud ones, since it cannot stream the cloud albums. Audyssey can only stream spotify but not iTunes cloud. Also the SQ of Audyssey is superior from the one of Accudio which just applies a flattening eq to everything giving lifeless results to all headphones / IEMS...
