Grado e Series

They are the 325is which have the chrome back. A quick comparison in the bass department between those and the 125e would be golden! I'm into fast paced electronic stuff and the 325is just seem to be relentless on delivering super tight low end compared to other open phones i have listened to. Dt880 and hd 650 seem a lot more laid back, Its like they cant keep up the pace compared to the grados. im into stuff like this producing and listening. Fast and relentless

The bass on the SR125e is stronger than that on my chrome SR325is headphones, yet just as precise (no blooming or muddiness associated with the greater bass strength of the SR125e).  This is not surprising, as the flat S pads of the SR125e move the drivers closer to the ear, increasing bass strength, and that the e-series in general is more bassy than the older series'.

The SR325is excels at transparency, the "you are there" effect associated with Grados.  It also has a larger soundstage, perhaps due to the greater driver-to-ear distance of the L bowls.

Awesome @kayandjohn you have pretty much sold me now on getting a pair. I bought some fidelio x2s but ended up getting a dodgy gibson pair so they are getting returned for the grados.
Would you say getting some additional bowl pads would be an improvement for the 125e?

Like you stated, the bass is stronger on the 125e being that the drivers are closer to the ears with the (S) cushions. If you use the (L) cushions on the 325is or vise-versa how is the comparison? Or even TTVJ flat pads on both which would increase the bass even more than the (S) cishions.

I think choosing between bowl pads and S pads would be a matter of taste. I feel that the 125i bass did not go as well with the bowls, but that was the previous generation and just my 2 cent.

Probably not (though I have not tried it yet). Generally, I found that except for the GH-1, Grado headphones get worse not better if you put pads on them other than those with which they came. @stacker45 would add that bowls help some other ones, especially the Bushmills X.

Well John, I own 6 pairs of Grados, and only 2 of them have the original earpads, here's how it goes,

1) - SR80e - L instead of S
2) - RS1 - L
3) - GH-1 - G instead of L
4) - Bushmills X - G instead of S
5) - PS1000 - G
6) - HP1000 - L instead of Flats

As I've said before, the fact that Grado allows us to ''tune'' our headphones by swapping earpads is just great, and as you can see, I'm tacking full advantage of it.

The way I see it, there is no good or bad, or right or wrong, getter or worse. I think that it can be sumed up with a single, more accurate word, and that word is refrigerator, there, like it or not, I said it.

Hmmm!, sorry, I meant to say, different, not refrigerator.

Between the RS1, the GH1 and the Bushmills, which one do you like most, and why?

I am currently pairing my MAD Ear+ HD with PS500e and G cush pads and find it to be a winning combo.

I have to agree with this. I tried the L-cusion on the 125i and it was not a good match. I didin't notice the drop in bass but experienced the same thing. I noticed it was way too bright. I only tried for five minues and put the s-cushion back on. Having loved the 125i, this was not what I expected.

The GH-1 and the Bushmills, both have G-cush, and as good as the Bushmills/G are, I think that the GH-1/G does evrything a bit better.

There's are significant sound signature diffrences among Grado's earpads. Now, since RS1, and my GH-1 don't have the same earpads, so take this with a grain of salt.

Not surprisingely, since they have a bigger soundstage, and longer decay, I prefer the GH-1/G with big venue recordings.

With their L-cush, the RS1 are my go to cans for small venues, like studio recordings, female vocals, or Jazz clubs. The RS1 classic's major strenght is it's rich midrange, wich gives you an intimate listening experience.

In my opinion, there are very few Grados that can rock the G-cush, they are the GH-1, the PS500, and the Bushmills X. This means that the GH-1 sounds very good with the L-cush, and they sound great with the G-cush.

So, if I had to choose between the GH-, and RS1, I would choose the GH-1, and I'd order a pair of G-cush as soon as possible.

I hope this helps.

I'm not surprised, the G-cush tends to mate well with headphones that have good bass extension, and a rolled off treble.

This is very helpful. Perhaps I'll postpone the GH1 till I'm more financially relaxed. Right now I'm not much in need for bigger soundstage, as I sold my PS500 and am still very happy with my 325e.
