I'm not sure hearing the same. Mostly i thought it comes from the rest of the chain. But searching issues at the source is of course the better way. I hear mostly contemporary jazz from the label ECM. But i'm also a great fan from some operas, especially "Die Zauberflöte". And sometimes it sounds a little bit overloaded in the loud passages. This is the issue you meant, correct?

Huh? 'Splainy please

Meaning, if your ears were bad you likely wouldn't be hearing much in the upper registers, let alone being able to hear fine detail, distorted or not.

Yes, overloading aptly describes it. One thing about Zauberflaute, you can dislike opera, in general but still adore Zauberflaute!

James, do you have any idea what type of offer will be extended to registered Fiio users so I can determine if the compromise for the lack of replaceable battery will be worth it to me?

so far we have not decided anything about our registered user, and it is just a idea to feedback our royal user , so they can get the X7 early with special discount .

Might I suggest the more products a person owns, the bigger the discount

I really like the modular design, hope it trickles down to some other products. Anybody up for an e12m?

When you turn this photo 90 degrees counterclockwise you can imagine that it is the bottom module. Maybe ...

Lol, bingo! anyway, it is just a initial engineer sample.

it is too complex to used in other models.

I am disappointed by the fact that FiiO X7 will probably get only one microSD slot. Is this really a final decision or two microSD slots are still possible to be in X7?
My FiiO X5 currently has 256GB available (with two 128GB cards) and I am sooo happy with it. It looks too bad if the new dream player from FiiO will get only 160 GB (128GB card and 32GB of internal memory). I'm sorry, but it doesn't look as a dream player for me...
James have mentioned that 256GB microSD cards will be available in a relative short time and then X7 will have 288 GB. But at that time I could have 512GB in my X5 with two microSD slots and e.g. Calyx M will get something around 768 GB (with 512GB in SD and 256GB in microSD slot).
Audiophile sound quality is of course the most important for my dream player, but storage space and battery life are still very important decision points (originally planned 2 microSD slots and 10 hours of battery life are just enough for me). I don't care about other bells and whistles as WiFi or BT. I have no problem living without touchscreen or user-replacable battery, but my dream player needs to have enough storage space.
Having two microSD slots was very important decision point to pick my FiiO X5 over iBasso DX90 (as their SQ is relative similar).
I also own my older FiiO X3 and one microSD slot (with 128 card) is a big limitation for using high-res files (especially when you start using 24/192 or DSD albums). BTW, 32 GB of internal memory will be as ridiculous in two years as 8GB of internal memory on X3 nowadays.

Hi James,

Sorry to not read the previous post but, I have 2 very important questions.
1. When is X7 expected to be released?
2. What kind of 3rd party apps are compatible? Is spotify coompatible
Thanks for taking the time and effort to reply
Cheers

It's always a gamble for a company when deciding to drop a mSD slot in favor of better battery life for the WiFi because not everyone will use WiFi. Im sure everyone will appreciate larger storage capacity. Personally I'd prefer 2 mSD slots and if I want to turn on WiFi I'll accept a shorter battery life.
