Thanks for pointing that out! Would prefer iFi to use 3D holographic for HEADPHONES on iDSD micro xD if not, both if possible but I doubt anyone would like to use the iDSD micro for speakers but I could be wrong

Hi,

Portable = headphones.

So IF we can, it would be 3D Holographic for Headphones.

Good day ,

A plea for the iDAC

In this discussion, it seems seems to be about to produce an egg-laying mega jack of all trades . Sure I'll buy a micro IDSD .
But it seems that the new micro IDSD to the iDAC micro peel off.

Please do not do that. Keep the iDAC in the program is super easy to use and what I can recommend " normal people " .

The thing everyone can use, especially on Mac.

Plug it in, listening to music, brushing because of the super sound.

iDAC 2 micro wish list :

• Please no driver in Windows, or the driver automatically directly from the Windows install update
• RCA jacks on the back, along with USB 2 socket
• 3.5 mm and 6.3 mm headphone jack and volume control on the front
• No distortion at the output lines when setting pre- KH ( that makes me tame )
• No DSD and DXD and such riff-raff - who has since such recordings ?
• No battery, but a power supply socket would be welcome , if necessary also on the side
• No mice pianos and other switches
• Sounds even better than the old one
• Costs less than the old

Many thanks in advance

Hermann von Wartburg

Hi,

iDAC will continue in production but please see early Core Digital Engine specifications. The micro iDSD (and nano iDSD) all play PCM/DSD/DXD natively. So it plays what you have without conversion into one of the other formats.

The micro chassis is small. If we are top give our customer features, we have to install switches wherever possible.

Sonics? We always improve sonics - ask any AMR customer!

danke

You and Roamling both think 'black is the new black?'

Everything is black, my rack, my amps, my speakers, my streamer, my laptop, my laptop desk, my mind....

The only thing silver right now is an iFi iCan, for which I made an exception!

Ditto!

The iCAN sticks out like a sore thumb here.

Hello from Greece,

May i add one more suggestion to the whole mix ?

A coaxial S/PDIF input.
The optical only goes up to 96kHz and has jitter.
The coaxial will allow for media players and modern blu-rays to playback 192kHz flacs
as well as the option to hook up that old dvd-player everyone has as a spare and playback some old cds from time to time.

Eyxaristo
Thanks

Power cable entry from the side with 'L' shape optional adapter has got good feedback. So far, only the iTube has this.

Please ensure that it remains that only iTUBE has this

It was a kludge and don't tell me it wasn't!

It would have been better to put the inputs on the back and the outputs on the front. At least then it would have matched the iDAC and the units would have looked better sitting in a row.

Hi and welcome.

These requirements are more desktop-based than portable-based.

Though nowadays, it is PC hook-up more than CD player hook-up

So you use headphones or speakers or both?

  Hi,

This works for us!

those blue cables are cool, lengthwise there just perfect, are they available for sale or did you build them DIY?

by the way looking at this stack, why not sell the micro iDSD in a level II bundle offer with the Mercury USB cable or a level III bundle with the iUSB + Gemini USB Cable (with a nice bundle discount of course

See what I mean? That power lead stuck in the side is a look only a mother could love

Fortunately, when I'm done building here, the front panel of the iCAN is the only bit that will be visible to the outside world. :p

I am getting quite worried by the number of features that people seem to want to pile onto this "DAC".

From the point of view of someone who already owns an iCAN and an iTUBE, I really don't want to spend my money on a DAC that completely duplicates the functionality of those other two. It would feel like I am wasting money on redundant features when all I want is a "DAC".

I wonder if there is scope for ifi to introduce two products here:

1) all singing does everything micro iDSD "Max"

2) just the best DAC you can build and nothing else micro iDSD "Pure"

I already own an iUSBPower too so even the battery is redundant.

I will never take the micro iDSD on the road with me. I already have an Arcam rPAC which is perfect for that but if I didn't then I would probably buy the nano iDSD, not the micro.

It seems to me that the micro iDSD (and the iDAC) have an identity crisis. Every other ifi component knows what it is and does one job well. The DACs though seem to think they are also headphone amps and pre-amps and portables and don't really shine as any of those things. A pure DAC would be a nice option.

I brought forward this idea of a standalone DAC in post 11 as an alternative design as well, kind of following the same line of thinking. As a owner of an iCan i would not need another headphone amp and the DSD DAC is the feature I am looking for. I also want to get a micro iUSB because i think it will enhance the USB audio playback to another level. That would be 2 or 3 iFi devices that  stack up well together, each with its own functions.

On the other hand i can see the argument for a combined device that includes the headphone amp because some users don't have an iCan or iUSB and want an all-in-one device which is great for the desktop. I would certainly be happy with that and use it at work and at home in combination with my laptop or iPad. The iCan can stay in my home stereo system connected to the line out of my Cyrus Amp and if i need some extra power i can connect it to the micro iDSD.

So I would be happy with both designs. The most important thing for me is the form factor. after its release I was looking into buying the nano iDSD but because its shorter than the micro iCAN I was holding back. Now with the micro iDSD coming up I am really looking forward to get it, with or without a built in headphone amp

since it is meant to be a portable unit, i think the inclusion of a headphone amp is almost necessary. people don't want to carry around a separate amp for on-the-go. seems like we know what the form factor of the micro will be - it's the same design as the micro series of iFi products, so i doubt that is going to change.

Nothing too technical, and I'm sure some of these have already been suggested, but:

1 - Optional colors to feel more "customizable"
2 - Direct playback via thumb drive or sd card? Too much to ask? Or maybe a model with simple, built-in media storage (8-16 GB) and playback. Which would include ability to be synced with computer as a mass storage device.
3 - Matching remote control for volume control and/or
4 - Docking capability for smart phones with an app. Maybe a hi-res player designed to function with the iDSD Micro. Ability to control phone playback through the app via a remote control. I know that's a big request..
5 - Included coupon for $10 off a 0.5M Mercury cable :)
6 - Bonus Hi-Res song download card

That's all I got
