Cowon Plenue P1

I do consulting in sound&vision. I am working over 16 years in the world of better sound&vision now. These days my focus is only on 3 dimensional sound. This means I only sell equipment what can create a deep and wide stage. When you use the settings of Jetsound to the max you create a wider and deeper stage than any other small player can. This is priceless, I am only interested in Cowon based on the analogue sound and creating the best 3D stage. That is why the rest I really don't care! 3D sound is the most thrilling part in highend audio. When you can create more freedom around your head this is what you want. Cowon was the first brand what gave me this big stage I always dreamed of. I am looking forward to get the P1 soon.

There is one thing I want to say about high ref recordings. HDtracks is what I call budget track or inferiortracks. I buy for about 300 euro for streaming music each month. I also have a Qobuz account. When I compare the same recordings of HDtracks and Qobuz there is a big difference in endresult. What the F do they do with the recordings. Qobus is superior in the endresult. I am a perfectionist and only the best matters. The recordings of Qobuz are more dynamic, better overal sound and more authority as well. Compare it yourself!!

Interesting... I have been owning a  Cowon C2 since 2012 . I have now started playing with the custom equalizer and JetEffect more than ever before. If you don't mind sharing, can you please post your JetEffect and equalizer settings for the 3D sound stage. Thanks in advance...

Just got my P1. I also have the AK240 plus the Hugo.

I'm currently using the P1 as a transport for my Hugo. I can't tell any difference in sound quality between the AK240 and the P1 as a transport for the Hugo except for the price. The P1 cost me £650 while the AK240 cost a lot more.

I have not tried to see what they sound like using the internal DAC and AMP. At the moment I'm very happy with the P1 as a source. The UI is very good. I would go as far and say it's nearly as good as the AK240 in some ways.

Can you compare P1 and AK240 without Hugo ? I guess without Hugo,AK240 is better than P1.

But,like what I said,I just guess.

If you compare them,we can know truly.

Yeah I'll try tomorrow using my Roxanne. I have a feeling the AK would sound better, but by how much I'm going to find out.

I use the Sony MDR-EX1000 as a headphone. This one can also create a very wide stage. It is a lot wider compared to Sennheiser. My settings are still personal.I changed them during listening with my EX-1000.

For example: I played 24 hours a day, and after 7 days my Olive with the same 1792 burr brown dac had the musical sound I wanted.  Before this it rather sounded cold and with less dynamic.

I have just read some of your inputs on this thread, Bobby72 and I'm impressed by the experience you've had, esp. with soundstage and 3D and what you said about the musical sound obtained from sufficient burn-in.

What I'm concerned with now is the sound I get from even very high-end headphones and iems. I consider myself pretty healthy, even though I will be 69 next month, December 10th. Normally, out in the city environment I can hear everything well, even the screeching of tires, carhorns, jackhammers, etc.
However, when I am listening, say, to classical orchestral, which is my preferred kind of music, I am often disturbed by what I hear as hash, breakup and sibilance when passages are loud and esp. when the whole orchestra plays together in loud tuttis.

It seems though, that many so-called golden ears are oblivious to this. Why do I think so? Because I don't really find reviewers and Head-Fiers mentioning it as much as I would expect, considering how often I find it in recordings.

Could this be a limitation of the present technical ability that hopefully will one day be solved?

Again, I don't think it's a problem or limitation of my ears b/c sometimes, when the sound engineers get it right, magic happens and I DON'T hear that hash!
So, naturally, Bobby, my question is: what is your experience with this situation and anybody else who can relate to my distress.

Audio is a very personal matter. But I can gantee that 3 dimensional sound is prefered by every single person with a normal hearing far over 2 dimensional sound. Music played by a good system what starts at 16 hz with a very deep and wide stage is a different expierence than with a headphone. I prefer this over the best headphones available. But.... the quality of sources and headphones is getting better.

My Sony EX1000 does not sound harsh in the high freq. at all. I know some other can. It depends also in what you use for equipment.

In 16 years of time that I am working in the world of better sound&vision i have done thouesends of tests. I do tests because I want to know all properties of the tool ( amp. source, cable, speaker, conditioner etc.) I test. I have trained my brains over the 16 years that now I have a photographic memory in sound. When I use my own music and I play a song I know well. I know in about 10 seconds were every instrument/voice is. I also know how deep it goes, how many layers in the low freq there are, and how much resolution there is. When I go to a 2nd audition ( changing a tool) I can compare the first one in my head with the 2nd. I can discribe exactley what the differences are between them and which is better. This gives me a big advantage over other shops. The other thing what gave me a big advantage is thati have developed my own way of acoustic measurments. I measure at different heights and places because I want to measure a much dynamic/resolution as possible. When you use your brains well you can create a superio level to most other audio shops. In my experience is that in the world of better sound&vision you have a lot of F. mongols. I have to admit thta I started with audio when I was 6. This is not my work or hobby. Music is mu biggest passion. This is a part of who I am a s a person. Like a second nature.

You can train your brains a lot. I started to work in audio in 98. With the knowledge and insight I have know I can judge a lot faster than when I started. I work and think in tools. I use the properties of different equipment to create my personal sound. This is a physical 3 dimensional sound. With this I can crush most of all competitors with ease. Because most F. mongols sell 2 dimensional standard audio. For me it is that easy!

Sounds like a lot of hot air to me...

Audio is about facts. It is about what you can hear The best and most convincing sound always wins. When I would not be 100% sure about my words I would never say it. I understand your reaction. Because I have heard it a lot. These people think different about me after they auditioned my systems. The sound tells the truth I always say. It is as it is.

It's times like these when I really appreciate the block button. Kudos to the mods for this feature.
