Can someone please offer a comparison on the Sennheiser IE80 versus JVC FX850?

I currently own Hippo VB and previously owned Sony EB90EX.  I did briefly own the Senn IE80 but was admittedly to quick to sell them after only 24 hours - I didn't give them enough chance but the lack of sub bass compared to Hippo VB left me disappointed.

My taste is now changing and find myself wanting a higher end sound but still retaining some good sub-bass for my house and techno.  Which would you guys suggest?

The IE80 have a lot more mid-bass than sub-bass. With the Hippo VBs it's the other way round, so I understand that you didn't like the Senns.

The FX850 are flatter across the bass range than both, so imagine your VBs with some added mid-bass and you'll get the picture. Mids and highs are a clear upgrade to the Hippo VBs imo.

Sony hybrids will make them even bassier, due to a smaller bore. I find the most secure way is to wear them over-ear, but I personally wouldn't use these in the gym.

Yeah, I just did this today and only listened for a few minutes. I'll give them a better listen tomorrow, but just the couple minutes of listening, I'd say if the bass did change, it ain't much.

Wow, great price! You must have jumped on them when they dropped to 28,xxx yen.

They jumped up to 35,800 a while ago.

Absolutely! I got lucky and happened to glance at this thread one day- saw that price and cancelled my previous order(which was at the price you mentioned and hadn't shipped after two weeks). It was my second purchase through EC-Joy(which I believe the FX700 was my first). Very good pricing from that seller- fast shipping, too. Paid 900 yen more than the lowest price found here(28,034).

I just ordered a pair of these based on the glowing recommendation of another headfier whose advice I trust. It is a bit of a risk since they are so new, but I am hopeful they will make me smile

Just to dispel any rumors, I did not order the FX750 and FX650 on April Fools' Day and personally couldn't care less about how they sound in comparison to the FX850.

I'm looking at the 650's among some others to replace my seemingly departed TDK BA-200 (Well the left side is gone at least)

Found this listing on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-KENWOOD-Victor-HA-FX650-Wood-Stereo-In-Ear-Headphones-Japan-Model-New-/161258406419?pt=US_Headphones&hash=item258bc00213

Legit?

I can't say I know much about JVC IEM outside of that they are well reviewed, should I assume the 650's outshine my TDK?

Looks legit.  Might be too early for fakes yet so seems safe.  Price isn't bad either.  Amazon Japan has them listed for $153 and Tenso shipping would cost another $20.  I should be receiving the 650's by the end of the week and will compare it against the 850's.

Very interested in how the 650's sound in general, found them on Amazon.JP but says they can't ship to my address. Which is a bit strange. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong.

You have to set up an account with Tenso. It's a forwarding service for products from Japan. Search Tenso.com in English and the site will guide you through the process on setting up an account. You can also use Pricejapan and it's easier to buy from them but will cost you more than that eBay seller. If you can figure out Tenso, it's usually the best bet since you can buy it from Amazon Japan and use their service.
