Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

We’ve shown a full 2-channel system. Yeah, I know, we haven’t yet delivered it, and the Vidar is still planned for Q1, but the reality is, we had a great-sounding, all-Schiit 2-channel system running at RMAF.

Actually, I thought that the Yggdrasil/Ragnarok combo driving Salk speakers that you guys showed at THE Show Newport sounded pretty darn good for a headphone amp driving a pair of speakers... I still remember the trumpet piece that Jim Salk played - so beautiful.

+1

Thanks Jason for telling us what you can.  2016 was a great year for products when you had no plan.  There is clearly a plan, or at least planned introductions and R&D objectives for 2017.  We all hope that having a direction isn't a curse.  Can't wait to see [redacted] and [redacted].

I thought that was [redacted]. Too many code names to keep up with and match to real developing products. No matter what can't wait to see what Schiit dumps on the waiting and wanting public. Myself is patiently waiting on vidar.

The other not digital thing, I assume

Actually not. It's not really a big thing. Just one of the surprises that are coming, not something I talked about.

Another unsaid thing: I'll keep writing this book as long as you keep reading! No matter if we succeed or fail on the big ideas, next year is gonna be interesting...

One of the refreshing things about the book is that it captures a bunch of folks having fun doing what they love, and doing it their way.  Whatever 2017 brings, even if there are major frustrations, the reader knows Jason, Mike and the rest will feel good about the freedom they enjoy to try to create something new. IMHO, there's not a lot of creativity out there in the audiophile consumer audio marketplace.  Schiit turns out some great products at a prodigious pace.  Jason has written the book on R&D, business, marketing, and product development.  Just amazing.

Here's wishing Schiit good fortune in 2017 whatever unfolds....

A couple of updates:

1. Unless something very untoward happens, Freyas will be available for order on Friday. We are finally getting boards in tomorrow. It's doubtful that any of them will be shipped on Friday, however. We have to burn them in.

2. Just a couple of photos of the new Vidar prototype, which I mentioned I was building. It's radically different than what we showed. The heatsinks are now literally part of the chassis--everything bolts to them. It should be running next week, thermally qualified shortly after, and then the parts ordering can begin. One aside: this sucker is now VERY dense. The new, larger heatsinks added a few pounds.
