Dx90 has been discontinued. Take a look at dx80 thread!

DX80 really interests me. I have been reading a lot about it lately. Chances are, at the time of release, the UI is going to be buggy and is going to take a few months and few FW updates to make it into a pleasurable UI. Since DX90 has been around for a while, from what I have read, its UI has evolved and is very stable and pleasure to use now.

Has anyone tried using the DX90 with android? My DX90 detects a connection and shows it on linux/mac dac mode but my galaxy s5 running CM 12.1 doesn't detect a dac connected to it. Searched google and head-fi and still cannot find answers.

On my Macbook pro, the DX90 works for a while then the sound disappears. The macbook still shows its connected to the dx90. I don't know if it's the dx90 or my MBP (2011) running yosemite that's causing the problem. any thoughts?

Try using the app called USB Audio Player Pro. Its an app made for using DAC's with Android devices. Its not free (about $10) but there's a demo version so you can test your connection. I've had my DX50 running from a Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 no problem with the app.

Check it out here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.extreamsd.usbaudioplayerpro&hl=en

There's also "Hiby Music App" which is 'free' and just as useful.

Apparently, all the buggy DX80 units that people have tried in the fair were pre-production units. It seems the final production version has a smoother UI and a different screen and better sound. Paul from IBasso also said that the battery life will be around 11-12hrs for IEMs and lossy files. That's close to 3-4 hrs of additional battery compared to DX90. Regardless, I am still under the impression that the first releases are going to be buggy. So I might just stick with the Fiio for a few months, read reviews about the DX80 and buy it once the UI becomes better. Worst case, pickup a used DX90 later.

Edit: The stated 11-12 hrs batter life is for lossless filess and IEMs on DX80.

I wouldn't necessarily say it was a 'pleasure to use'. It could certainly be a lot better and the DX90's screen is pitiful really. If you look at the life-cycle of the DX90, they just about get it into shape and then decide discontinue it. I'd like to think that the DX90 taught iBasso a lot of useful lessons about DAP design and a lot about consumer relations.

I get around 5-6 hours off a full charge driving IEMs on Lossless files. I got around 5 hours on full cans so I wouldn't describe the DX80's battery life as anything remarkable if those numbers were from testing with lossy files.

I agree that they should continue to support the DX90 especially considering that the FW isn't exactly perfectly polished. Interface could be better. For example, continue playing a previously played track upon reboot resets the entire album order and you get random tracks from within that folder. Pretty annoying.

Did you get to try it (as in, try listening to it? If yes, how would you compare its sound to DX90's sound. True, and I am sure they would have tried to address some principal issues that people had with DX80 with an addition of better screen and battery (although it is not user replaceable). I do like the size and form factor of the DX90 though. It would have been nice had they increased the size of the screen a little bit without so much increasing the size of the device itself.

Hmmm. Even if 11-12 hours are best estimates for lossy playback, I am guessing it shouldn't go any below than 8hrs with lossless playback. That's again 2-3hrs more than DX90. What are your thoughts?

And besides, most of my collection is 320Kbps MP3s and some in 16/44 FLACs and very few in 24/96 FLACs. So I think it should workout pretty well. In addition, there is a bigger and a better resolution screen that should help in terms of User Interface and Experience. And when I talk about bigger and better screen, I am talking in purpose of larger real estate to work on and the possibility to have larger icons and more items to display in the lists.

Please reread what I wrote on the DX80 thread. I wrote lossless files for 11 to 12 hours using IEMs or portable type headphones.

Also I have stated previously that we will have another FW update for the DX90. I do not have a time frame right now for that.

iBasso Stay updated on iBasso at their sponsor profile on Head-Fi.

My bad. Sorry about that.

Anyways, 11-12hrs for lossless playback is great news.
