Audio-GD Master 9

Nice review! Agree with all your observations.
I have found that the transparency really lets a DAC's flavor shine through. Quite amazing.

Thank you. Exactly. If you have a really good dac, it would be a shame to ruin the signal in an amplifier that is not transparent enough.

And yes, is letting the dac shine.

Very nice review of the Master 9 Dan!

Regarding if it’s warm or neutral I would say pretty neutral. It do has a colorful and smooth presentation. By colorful and smooth I don’t mean adding artificially warmth/coloration or taking away things, more like drag out and present instruments and voices naturally tonality, if it’s there (the very opposite to a flat and gray sound, or as Dan put it dirty). One of the biggest pros too me is that the Master 9 match with many different cans and it can be used as a preamp (remote, many ins and outs etc.).

If the Master 9 sounds anything like the Master 10 - I call the sound "organic".

agreed..

I have been enjoying my M9 for two weeks now. Love it.

While I was pleased with the customer service of Audio-GD, I was also floored by how quickly DHL delivered my M9. They received it on a Saturday in Hong Kong and it arrived the following Monday morning in CT. Impressive!

A few notes on matching the M9 with a variety of headphones using computer audio.

If the HD800 are not full sounding enough to your ears with the M9, try Audrovana plus.  It is the fullest sounding of all the players.  No need to buy a tube amp.

The TH-900 to my ears sounds best with Pure Music.  Try to play from memory for a fuller sound or from the disk for a leaner sound.

The HE-6 best matches up with Fidelia to my ears.

Hey- I'm considering an m9 to replace a soloist and pair with a concero HD dac and LCD 3f. Am I wasting the m9s potential by running rca outs and SE? Im not looking to replace the dac or run balanced right now. Still a worthy upgrade?

Cheers

Amarra sounds "fuller" and richer than Audirvana Plus.

I am using m9 on single ended rca and compared it to soloist. It is totally worth it. The burson is quite behind m9. Look for my m9 review on headmania.org for more details.
