Is it worth it to replace/swap the drivers in my Beyerdynamic DT770s?

Hi all,

It appears I have a dead driver in one side of my 250 ohm Beyerdynamic DT770s I purchased in 2008 (thread here). I got them on sale for $113, so it doesn't really seem worth it to buy a pricey replacement driver from the factory (especially if they retail for ~$75 each on the UK website).

Would it be worth it to find some other drivers of a comparable size and swap them in? It seems like at least one person has done it before with Audio-Technica drivers.

If so, what kind do you recommend? It looks like my current drivers are 45 mm.

Thanks!

It is worth it.

W5000 drivers are both worse than beyer drivers and more expensive.

If you decide not to repair them I will buy them from you for $35 incl shipping.

I would just stick with Beyer drivers.

I have replaced the drivers in a DT770-600ohm with Grado drivers, but they may not fit the 250ohm models, and it required taking the face plate off which had plenty of opportunity for error.
I dont remember the measurements (physical dimensions of grado driver), but they should be around.

You may also have luck with KSC-75 or portapro drivers.

Thanks for the info. It would be nice if there was a list somewhere of the sizes of all the common drivers ... wishful thinking.
