1.2.7 SQ is abit better then 1.2.6 but still sucks for my TG334..  best is 1.2.2 follows by 1.2.5..  reverting back to 1.2.5 after trying to get custom to 1.2.7 for the whole night.

1.2.7 also exhibit more hiss.. high is tamed... details retrieving sucks... sound stage is narrower then 1.2.5 but wider then 1.2.6.. to me both 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 SQ is nothing amazing...

very curious those who like 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 what iems or custom or headphone u all using?? i mean directly from dx50 amp and not external amp.

The moment i received my dx50 i updated i 1.2.6 because it is almost glitch free. I only used these 2 firmware so i couldn't compare with any others. ^^. Haven't crashed/froze once since i received my dx50.

have anyone notices the changes in EQ? The range have been change from +/-6 to +/-12. All the preset EQ have all the values almost double. E.g, Classic in 1.2.5 was 4, 4, 3, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, in 1.2.7, it is 8, 8, 4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 2. As far as my ears is concern, the number showed is proportional to the magnitude of change in SQ, i.e, 6 in 1.2.5 sounds the same as 6 in 1.2.7, and 12 in 1.2.7 does sounds nearly double the changes. I welcome this change :)

I love the inconsistency people have with the new firmware. Some say less soundstage, some say more, some say more bass, some say less, more hiss less hiss... etc.

Imma just enjoy what the new firmware has to offer as i quite enjoy it

To be honest I don't hear much difference between 1.2.5, 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 on DX50 > O2 > JH16/T1. If I replaced O2 with C5D I can hear subtle difference in bass impact but nonetheless similar sound signature.

1.2.3b has the obvious difference in sound signature for me. While the above mentioned FWs sounded well-rounded to me (neutral to balance) 1.2.3b sounded like the lows and sub mids were boosted and highs were rolled-off. It makes listening to rock music with plenty of bass details painful even at low volume.

Yep, commented on that a while back… I definitely agree that it's more usable now with the larger variation range (I can actually hear some changes

, now, while I essentially couldn't before)

i believe that embedded is better!

I was not commenting as to what's better, the DX50 doesn't care less that the image comes from the audio file than the picture found in the album folder, it's the exact same file.

As musicheaven said, there is no "better" in absolute terms… there are, however, different user scenarios, and some ways may work "better" for specific user scenarios. In general, having one jpg file in a folder instead of having it embedded in every music file saves a (very little) bit on the files' footprint on the cards, and in my own personal experience, with a few file formats a jpg in the folder is the ONLY way to have the DX50 display the album art (on my DX50 ape and mp3 files NEED a jpg file in the folder to display album art, while for flac and ALAC m4a embedded art works very well for me - some others, however, have needed to resort to this ALSO for flac files). This setup mandates, however, that users organize their music with an Artist==>Album folder structure (or, at least, with a folder for every album). This works very well for many cases.

I've described, a little bit back, how this does NOT work well for me for the cards that I want to connect through OTG, because I'd like to scan ALL the files on OTG as fast as possible at the beginning (and accessing many many folders gets old real fast:)), and then access my music either through the Album/Artist options on the DX50 menus, or even through the All music option, with shuffling set to random … in this second scenario, which works very well for me but may be completely different for you, I definitely find it "better" for my personal needs to embed the album art in each file (or I COULDN'T get album art for each album, as only one image per folder is read by the DX50).

I think that we are all different in our musical tastes
smile.gif
, or that our ears are all very different from each other … personally, I didn't like 1.2.5 at all, and went back to 1.2.2 very fast after trying it for a couple of days. I definitely liked 1.2.6, and am not finding 1.2.7 very different (but a few others have commented on that they DID, and found 1.2.7 inferior in SQ). I don't really think of myself as very qualified in describing the differences in SQ between them, so I won't even try, but I do know what I like or don't like (even though I can understand that a simple like/don't like is not very useful for others to understand how the different FWs sound)…

FWIW, I've been using mainly Heir Audio Tzar 350 with 1.2.2, 1.2.5 and 1.2.6 (with a DIY copper custom cable and ts-400 comply tips), and am mainly using a recently arrived Noble 6 with 1.2.6 and 1.2.7 (at first with the stock cable, now with a 93 Spec silver custom cable, still with TS-400 comply tips).

Edited to add: Oh, and I am/was using both IEMs straight from the DX50, even though with very different volume and gain settings (high gain and volume around 220-230 for the Tzar 350, low gain and volume around 190-210 with Noble 6, depending on songs)

1.2.7: Where did the treble go? :frowning2:

My memory is not good enough, so I just A/B between my PC>ODAC (swap the input wire to the Quickstep between the two). 1.2.6 was quite close to the ODAC (not as good, though - missing some detail and positioning). 1.2.7 sounds like the soundstage has been narrowed, the detail muffled by cotton wool, and someone hacked around at the upper end of a low quality EQ.

Shame really, but I can live with the gapless oddities of 1.2.6 in exchange for some SQ.

PS I have been playing around with my Philips Fidelio X1 cans. Plugged directly into the DX50 they are underpowered, muddy, one-note-bass disasters. With the benefit of the Quickstep in the chain, they are remarkable. Revealing, punchy, fast, dynamic, huge and accurate stage, and a really good listen.

I hear very little if any difference between 1.2.6.and 1.2.7 , perhaps it is a tiny bit smoother in the highs now...perhaps...

Happy owner of 9th batch DX50
I have it for about a month now and have no complaints.
It sounds good, it works good, it looks good.
At 239 dollar, I consider it to be a true bargain.

I really like this DAP, and I also like to read about it on this forum. I have to thank the early adopters for their input on this forum, because they also helped me to decide to by the unit

This morning I compared the sound of firmware 1.2.7 to 1.2.6

No headphone amp. Just the HP out of the player. Low gain.
I only use Flac files. Using Sennheiser IE8 phones.
All EQ settings off.

To MHO the sound has changed with the new firmware. The midrange sounds louder to me in 1.2.7.
This more forward midrange sounds more screamy and leads me to want to lower the volume.
It also affects the spaciousness. In 1.2.6 I could more listen into the recording, while 1.2.7. seems to come at me.

I switched back to 1.2.6. I haven't made my own wallpaper anyway
wink_face.gif

My wishlist for Ibasso
  1. Gapless function combined with sq of 1.2.6
  2. Switching songs leads to a audible (memory?)dump. The last bit of the previous track gets dumped at the beginning of the new track. I would't mind if that can be made to dissapear.
  3. Resizable album art would be nice. I would like albumart to fill the whole screen.
  4. Maybe Ibasso could mention changes made in sound settings in their releasenotes supplied with new firmware?
