I'm happy with the dx50 and iem's or yamaha pro 500's for portable, looking to amp to my HE400's at home so size not really a problem, pb2 anyone? I loved my ipod 5g and arrow combo but the dx50 is a step up on its own, do my HE400 just not need it? Sorry if this all sounds a bit noobie, cheers.

for sure you will need amping if you want to drive the HE400. I tried (for fun) running my HD650 and HE500 from the headphone out of my DX50, and it struggles big time. I had to set it on high gain, and 75% volume to get it to 'listening' levels. Not good. Ran it through my Bifrost/Lyr through the coax out, and its a different story. Much much better =)

hmm, I just noticed the line out seems to have a jack sensor, it auto plays when I plug it in, and auto pauses when I unplug, but doesn't seem to work on the headphone out. Is it just me? seems more useful it if sensed on the headphone out, not line out.

You are not dreaming I totally discharged my dap by having my headphones unplugged and not realizing the player was still running. It sounds to me that this is wired the wrong way, this function should belong to HO and not LO.

I've just finished my review on the DX50, it will go live on Headfonics hopefully soon.  It is a great player and I was lucky enough to have only a few issues after the first update.
Here are some HiRes Snaps.  Enjoy.

weird. not a deal breaker, just find it odd that it was made this way.

I installed it on Monday and didn't have any issues at all. Just follow the Read Me text exactly and you should be fine. You'll have to judge for yourself if it's worth it or not. I haven't noticed any major issues.

The only issue I had with the v1.2 update was that I couldn't find the update file to delete after the reboot, as recommended in the readme.txt. Not sure where it went.

is that just an issue with .flac filenames or does the 30 character limit apply across the board? i have .mp3 files with +30 characters that do eventually show up. takes a scan or two to do it though

All music file types, although I use only Flac and MP3 on my DX50. I have re-ripped all my old Alac and mp4 Apple rips. I agree that it will read longer filenames on the fly. What I am asserting and from my experience with a 64gb Sandisk card, is that if you want a one time scan that yields all your albums and not requiring multiple scans and ad hoc scans, reducing the filename length will solve this. With the protocol of 30 characters, my DX50 scans properly and completely every time. Introduce just one delinquent filename, and it won't scan thoroughly. Because about 1000 of my tracks were classical and extremely long, it was worth my while to do this because I simply could not get my albums to appear even after many scans, most of which didn't yield any new albums. If they ever fix this at iBasso, it won't take long to rename them with MP3Tag so its no big deal IMHO.

I choose my playlists from Album view mostly, but even in Directory view, 30 characters is adequate to identify tracks.

Ah hells below - seems that it might be my card that is the issue, both hopefully and annoying. Wav files worked but every third or fourth song yielded a freeze that needed a hard restart :S
Man, it is no easy journey with so many componants that can go wrong. Well, it is time to try and get a new Micro SD card and see if that helps.

Still, playing folder by OTG works like a charm , so something has to be right as well!

The OTG does not use ID3 tagging, so that might be one of your issues if it is the same card you are using in the OTG. .

Hey guys, i've come up with a wish/bug list that i'm thinking of sending over to iBasso. feel free to add to it!

Wish list:
- USB DAC
- Scrolling Title
- Auto+manual scan for new folders
- Option for screen on for every button press (can turn off)
- Lock switch still shows home screen, a tiny lock icon will suffice.
- Playlist feature working for albums/artist/etc. not just all music
- album art showing everywhere
- battery %, not that important, but nice to have
- scroll bar when browsing for music, and even fast scrolling using scroll bar
- Line out output should be always maximum, not volume controlled

Bug list:
- Media scanning doesn’t work all the time
- when shuffling “all music”, pressing back shuffles the song, not the previously played song.

I would like that too, but apparently it is not possible.
