The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

The sonic changes over the first few days for me, GG are:-

- first couple of days, a little warm and languid
- bass comes out to play, more impact and definition...however trebles get tizzzy
- unit started settling yesterday, 5th day. More balance, spatial portray is more precise, trebles has calm dow and mids has fleshed out

Today more of the same ....................

I am really enjoying my unit and without an amp too....it is definitely not the technical tour de force of it's big brother..but it is all so alluring to listen to and draws you into the music very nicely!!

Would you say that dx50 is very flat and accurate and is neutral?

Yeah, my iModded 5.5.

iMod wins for ease of use...lol but that's it.

In my situation I am not shelving my imod just yet, it is still very relevant, as you mentioned the UI is great no fuss just works (save you tons of time setting it up). But the sq is actually pretty good out of mine, I get a very good performance across the board, I can hear the same subtle notes/sounds than the dx50. Two additional bonuses; it is very easy on the iems and headphones somehow it seems to bring the best out of them and I can play music for hours without fatigue, not so with the dx50, it seems to be picky on the phones and the fatigue is an issue. However as I use the dx50 more and more I come to appreciate its nature. Every device has their ads and cons. My purchase into the dx50 is to add another dimension to my listening experience without breaking the bank  not to mention using higher res although my ears are still confuse about that.

I might have to give up one or the other if I favor one over the other :D

I'm using my Grado v4 Magnum Woodies, Heir 4Ai's, UE900's, and Senn HD 650's...literally going back and forth

Dude you have lost credibility there without the 1plus2. Shame on you.

Now since you listen to classical, try the Mahler 8 as the other head-fi'er recommended the other day. Make sure you finish the whole thing non-stop - it's only 80 minutes. If you really can't make it to the end, then skip the beginning and the middle too and just try the last part.

Remember not all imods are made equal. Here is an example. You know those caps are not the latest do you?

Hi,
We can fix the charge and discharge curve. But isnt the smart detector a better solution? With the smart detector, the battery indicator still works correctly after the battery decayed.
Nowadays, all smart phones are using the same battery capacity detector.

Hi iBasso Audio,
this mean even if we have a spare charged battery and if the player run out of battery. then when we change the new charged battery, the indicator will not show the correct battery percentage.

is this mean DX50 is not design to take spare battery? the design of able to change the battery is only when the battery spoil then we can change a new one to it? Many buyer has been attracted to this feature where we can use spare battery for our dx50. but the wrong battery indication is quite a disappointment actually.

Hi,
We dont find any problem on the battery indicator. The power management chip needs one complete charge and dischage cycle to collect date.
We will release the new firmware today.

After you replaced the battery, the battery indicator is incorrect on the first discharge cycle. It would be corrected on the second cycle.

Here's iBasso's reply regarding RF:

"Hi,
ALL opamps based AMP has the RF interference problem.  It cant be eliminated except use some headphone IC instead of the OPAMPs. However, headphone ICs offer horrible sound quality.

Sincerely"

No idea what they mean by that, are they implying they can do a hardware fix?! since they already use smart detecter which is used everywhere

but smart detector will only work with full cycle discharge (?!) not swapping...! or do they mean software fix, argh, no idea, lol

I found unused otterbox case from very long time, which I purchased with discount to my iPhone otterbox case without any reason. Now it found some occupants, I never carried any spare battery before but getting a free battery and option to increase playing time is enticing, any suggestion on how safe it is?

Nice :). I scored the exact same case for about $20.00 shipped for free. I use it for my SE5s. The included case would have damaged my IEMs because they are too big.

Great idea on the Otterbox case! I have one from my CIEM's that I don't use.

The HD650's sound great out of it

Jimmy, the thing is a freaking toy at $260 shipped to the US

D, I'll try the Mahler 8 tonight after work...I actually just emailed Tralucent and am saving up for 1plus2's. That's going to be my Xmas present to myself...get out of my head.

Music...I LOVED my iMod...hell, D will tell you...I put it through the paces and it was my favorite of all favorite pieces, esp when coupled to a FiiO amp. But...as with all things...time comes to retire.
Now I use it only when going on fishing trips attached to a JAM speaker! LOL

Have a great day all, off to make some money to support this addiction! LOL

I don't think that's the safest way to transport the spare battery. all th weight of the DX50 will be forced on the thin wall of that battery that may cause deformation (say, you dropped it suddenly and the otterbox landed "on ts feet" and the battery was on the feet side, with DX50 at the top of it) and that's not a good thing. in the worst case, the battery will explode, damaging your DX50 and iems and maybe even cause injury to you too....

I meant craps not caps.

I am glad you are getting more comfortable with the DX50. Seriously I may get one 1) as you said to add another dimension to listening experience 2) potential for mod after seeing those cylinders

With the DX50 and a silver LOD, I expect my lowly EX1000's treble sparkle will ignite a fire and burn my ears. But once I open the sh** and throw in some craps I firmly believe the brightness can be tamed from my experience with these ipods.

Hmm, thanks for the warning. I suspected it, battery might scratch the surface of dx50 on every push and turn. So I guess spare battery is not safe for portable use, better to keep it charge and replace when occasionally, because if we frequently change it, I'm not sure how good is back flip of dx50 after some time it might not stay in place and loosen up pretty much. Also keeping the spare battery without any charge for very long time will make the battery to leak acid and it will also explode and disfigured. The free battery is more trouble than worth I guess, 2nd and 3rd batch can consider themselves lucky!
