The Fiio X5 Thread

Yup.

Just don't let it run till it dies all the time and you'll be fine. You should charge it when you have around 2 bars remaining on the capacity gauge and unplug when it's full most of the time, and once a month run it low for maximum life. If it dies from a drained battery run to a charger or it may not be brought back to life if left in that state too long.

Quick question: So if I am planning to use the X5 as an USB DAC for long periods of time, how am I supposed to unplug it once it is full battery?

Or rather, am I right to say that the X5's battery won't be in a good condition if I keep using it as an USB DAC rather than just sticking with its DAP functions?

I wouldn't worry about using it for this purpose. I'm sure you are fine either way. But I notice the X5 gets pretty hot while using it as a DAP and playing music while charging. I don't really know about the DAC function as I use my DACport LX over it. I just use it as a DAP.

I don't use the amplifier section of the X5, and it seems that this is what causes the heat.
X5 LO > E12DIY > GR10 IEMs

So many people in this thread using X5 => E12 => IEM...
Because the X5 must have more than enough power to drive any iem out there sufficiently, does the SQ benefit that much from the E12? Is it really that good, or is the DIY one just so much better than the standard Mont Blanc?

The E12diy gives me the power to change the sound signature without messing with an equaliser. And it's cleaner sounding than the HP out of the X5

As Lee730 said, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Notice I said maximum life. Batteries are consumable items, like the brakes in your car and all batteries have a limited life. With my old iPod classic I had it plugged in to its dock 24/7 for about 2 years....... Not good. My wife constantly left her laptop plugged in forever (months) and she couldn't leave far from the charger without the battery dying shortly after. That is the state of lithium batteries, it's just the chemistry.

If you never use the X5 as a stand alone DAP then why worry about the battery as it will never be used? Just kidding. Let it drain a bit now and again, there is no memory effect with lithium batteries so it won't hurt it to do so.

Kerouac: "so you probably made a wise decision for an old (guess I'm even older) dude."  If I had candles on my birthday cake, there wouldn't be room for the cake.  I'm so old ("how old ARE you?") that I passed the minimum age for Social Security some years ago.  I recently figured out that I'm the oldest teacher at my school (2nd career).  I'm so old I can't pretend I'm not old..  I'm just freakin' old!

Wow, that old? Well, in my birth year I believe they even hadn't invented the bithday cake yet.
To stay on topic, here's a picture on which you can trace my birth year...

Mmmmmmmmm, could the answer be 5?

I was born in the 40s.  Old.  I saw President Eisenhower give a speech during his first term!!!  And I knew what the words meant (well, sorta- he WAS a politician).  Old.  When I listen to oldies, they aren't.

I'm so old, my family didn't have a TV set, it was called radio.  Old.  And my record player played 78s.  Old.  I'm so old I forgot what I was writing about..... oh, yeah.  Old.

Hmmm... I see. *shrugs* Maybe this is not something I should be concerned after all! One less barrier to my new DAP! :D

I have been tempted by the e12 diy, but I haven't been able to find it locally in Melbourne so my wallet is safe for now, but I'm searching for it. I'm sold.

Am I right to say that the E12 DIY is limited edition?

I guess the E12DIY is a harder sell considering its cheaper E12 alternative.

So far i've heard the E12DIY brand new (with stock opamp buffers), sounds as good as a well burned in E12.
Can imagine it'll only get better with more use.

IMO, the E12DIY is definitely worth its weight and price. Also a great pairing with the Fiio X5.
So much so, am in no hurry to change my dap combo. I can wait till next year's X7. :)
