Sorry I missed the awesomeness...

Did anyone ask Fang about a new electrostat?

Fang was not at the meet, only his Reps

Ari I believe that was George Lentze in the blue sweater from emmision labs pictured with Donald North.

It was George Lenz from EML and he is the US distributor and George was gracious and stayed for almost the whole event and the EML tubes really stepped up the Stratus

What made you buy the T90?...

Now the T90 was probably the biggest disappointment. I've already read reviews and comments by zombie_x about them, and I can confirm what he says about them. The t90's treble was really weird sounding to m. It was fine for orchestral music but everything else, the treble hurt my ears. Did you try the t90 on a different setup other than at the Beyer table?

Hi as far as the treble , I did hear a slight excess on all wich I attribute to the setup.
The T1 had a more subtle treble.
The reason I purchased the T90 was because "to my ears" there was a lifelike quality in the mids more so or as much as many other more refined and technically delicate cans there that axtually did not leave such a lasting impression on my mind.
I would have to say this is the importance of such meets and helps members realize what cans they prefer instead of endless headphone changing.
Probably saved me 2years of headphone searching,
And also having the privilege of hearing other members exquisite setups wich were literally amazing.
Thanks again dudes!

One last note for thread starter,
Please reconsider your rather uncharacteristic post of Mr . Speakers.
The thread should be more on topic rather than membership impressions.
I don't doubt your interaction with him as that was your experience but Mr Speakers is normally an extremely nice man, I mean extremely and I only met him twice.
As we all know it's a room of men and initial impressions are never always the true case,
Yet we all have a common cause and love of headphones so I am sure it was some misunderstanding in communication and/or mixup in testosterone levels lol.

ALso, anyone remember what pair of Beyers was auctioned? My dad said he liked them when he tried them, so I should find a pair for him, can't remember if it was T50p or DT1350

Get the dt1350 instead imo. It sounds much better.

I agree with this, this coming from the winner of the item.  It was the T50, but he should get the DT1350.  I was happy to contribute to the room, but not happy I bid to win in retrospect in that I could have bid to win some other items.  Had I spent some listening time with them 1st I wouldn't have bid against the other person who had bid before me; I'd confused the T50 w/the 1350.  But it was all in the name of a good cause so I am content.

I'll start with my gear impressions, pics to come later. I only had enough time to listen to a total of exactly 4 headphones at the meet. There was other gear that I would've liked to have listened to at the meet, in particular the DNA Stratus and Cavalli Liquid Gold, but I never got around to those. Will probably get a chance at another meet eventually. I don't think I've ever listened to nikongod's Silver Ghost either, which is a shame considering how many NYC meets I've been to! I have to do that at the next NYC meet.

Fostex TH600 (sourced by RAL-DSDHA2)

I own the TH900 right now, and was curious to find out how the TH600 stacked up against it. It was definitely in the same vein, but not exactly the same. I thought it had more bass quantity and less treble quantity, but it was still nearly as effective with multiple genres as music as the TH900 - which included some rock and classical on Moon Audio's computer. None of it was music that I knew, but despite that the TH600 sounded pretty good overall. Would have to spend more time with one again to say anything further. I did like its sleek black finish too, which looked cool in person. The TH600 was promising enough to me that I'd consider buying one to check out further.

Sennheiser Momentum (sourced by Anedio D1)

These headphones had more bass quantity than I thought they would! I've never thought of any Senns as bass monsters but these had a nice kick to them. They did sorta seem like a closed version of an HD6xx to me, though I haven't actually heard an HD6xx in a while, so that's more of a guess than speaking from actual recent experience. They sounded good overall, no major complaints about them. Seemed more balanced-sounding than the V-MODA M-100 and Beyerdynamic DT1350 that I happen to also own right now - sort of a middle-ground between those two. Don't think I'd buy one though, as they still had a slight trace of what I call the Sennheiser veil - overall clarity wasn't that great.

I was also annoyed that the Momentum didn't have a swivel mechanism, which made me unable to get a proper fit with them.

MrSpeakers Mad Dog (sourced by Schiit Bifrost & Lyr)

I heard these at last year's RMAF but completely lost a sense of their sound after hearing so many other headphones right after it at that show. So I wanted to check these out again, especially as I'm always looking for a set of great closed portable headphones. There was actually music on MrSpeakers' computer that I was familiar with (notably jazz, but also other stuff) and it sounded pretty good. I'd say the Mad Dog is probably the most balanced-sounding closed portable headphone in a long time! Most closed portable headphones I've heard have either loads of bass without treble compensation (V-MODA M-100), or loads of treble or mid-range without bass compensation (Beyerdynamic DT1350), but the Mad Dog had roughly equivalent bass AND treble, which I found relatively shocking. It actually blew me away by how much simultaneous bass & treble it had! I instantly suspected the Mad Dog might be worth checking out further - as in, a potential purchase. I'm still contemplating it and might actually do it. Definitely a left-field surprise for me. It was really comfortable too with large circumaural pleather earpads.

It was also promising to me in the aspect that the headphone is essentially a Fostex T50rp - an efficient, low-impedance headphone. I seem to be gravitating more towards headphones of that type lately.

HiFiMan HE-500 (sourced by HiFiMan DAP and EF-6)

I've been curious about the HE-500 for a while, especially since it's been the recipient of much raving on Head-Fi. Well, I wasn't very impressed by these and in fact there was one thing about it that really distracted me. While it was overall decent and wasn't too unlike the HE-400 that I own right now (but with better frequency balance), it made Alison Krauss' voice (which I'm extremely familiar with now, as I have all of her CDs and have listened to them on all sorts of headphones & amps) sound like a ghost, and I'm not referring to her vocal quality where she can sound ethereal. It was something very wrong-sounding and it made her sound the opposite of "physical". It was very unrealistic to me in that sense and I couldn't get past it once I heard it. Will probably check it out again on other gear at other meets eventually, but I was essentially turned off by it and will definitely not be purchasing one anytime soon.

That's something I try to hear every NYC meet. It's the best combination I've heard with the HD800 to my ears at least.

Just want to say thank you to the organizers!  It was so awesome being able to go, since it was my first ever meet.  Everyone was so friendly and the amount of gear there for testing was amazing!  I didn't know where to start lol.  It was great meeting Jude and all the vendors.  I didn't really get to mingle much since I really wanted to hear all the gear or most of them at least.  My favorite and one I am really contemplating on getting was the HD800 with the Woo Audio Firefly.  Hearing that set up floored my jaw, it was just so sublime to my ears.  Next I have to say that I really enjoyed the Philips Fidelio X1 and the Mad Dogs were awesome.

Overall it was an amazing experience and I can not wait for the next one!  Shout outs to SpiderNhan, Tom from ac gear, and M80.   Also to Red Wine Audio for donating that awesome Imod I won at the auction! Loving it since I had been looking for an upgrade to my old nano.

Hopefully I get to see you guys again for the fall meet!

That is my favorite set up for HD800 as well. It is just perfect IMHO.

OH GOD WHAT A BAD PICTURE OF ME HAHAHAHAHAHAHH (im the one in the green), was in awe over those babies, heh.

regarding mrspeakers

well he was one of the first stands i visited so he must have thought i wasn't a headfi member, I tried to play a flac file and it started playing over speakers on macbook, then he tells me not to play my own files and use one of his 20 files (none of which I've ever heard.) I listen to a song for a couple seconds and then i put the headphones down, get up, and i tripped on the wire, causing the headphones to (gently) fall onto the floor. as i'm apologizing he tells me it's not the first time in a kind of nasty tone and waves me off.

I CLEARED IT ALL UP WITH MRSPEAKERS

Personally I love Dan, He even recognized me from the Ny Audio Show, and we stood the exact same way in our picture lol, but anyway, in all fairness, you dropped his cans haha, I'd be made too :p
