The Fiio X3 Thread.

Really? compressed, separated??... my definition of compressed is FLATTENED, 2D sounding (aka MP3). use FLAC and a pair of good headphones and it will sound airy, spacious 3D soundstage, i will not say theater-like experience but near.

My only complain is customer service in mexico, the device SQ is darn good, and the FIIO-DIRECT CUSTOMER SUPPORT ROCKS, WAITING FOR MY REPLACEMNT UNIT TO ARRIVE, waiting to test it with MDR-1R.

To refute your theory. Used mine with XBA-H3 (Bassy) but still had a lush 3D soundstage WOWed me, i had Ultrasone HFI-780 (gave them to my german boyfirend), sounded good in low but Grreat in Hi-gain, with the ultrasones it sounded fuller, more body, 3D was less bit a bit but never compressed.

Compressed sounding DAP: iPoop, iCrap and so on..

That's great, I'm glad to hear that everything seems to work out fine for you after all :)

Thanks, i am so happy with fiio guys, I was fearing the worst, they also tried to contact their supposed official seller to no avail... finally they agreed to send me the unit, I just filled a form for returns (they estimate a month, but knowing mexican mail system use donkey and turtle to deliver
biggrin.gif
 expect more longer wait)

And amazon USA didn't let me order a walkman A10 booo, it cannot be shipped to mexico, guess it happens with very high-tech device or because it's new?

Just kidding about the turtle and donkey mail delivery trucks haha but yes emxcian postal service is screw*n slow, a simple birthday gift from a german friend has more than a month and still nothing

Yes at least they accepted to send me the unit after i pleaded to them i had no invoice to proof, they tried to contacta audiofilia.com.mx, they also received no answer. Filled out an excel document Customer return application, took pictures of the box bar code (back) and top Authenticity CODES and that was all, one month to deliver... but as we both from mexico know the turtle and the donkey mail delivery system

Keep the box dudes, in case you face a nasty situation like mine, fortunately ended happy

@peter123 What headphones do you find best with the x3? I need a new pair, and am thinking about the pro 80, hm5, or maybe just splurging for some beyers (either dt880/t51). I see all those in your profile, so could you give me an opinion on which you prefer. Also thought I seen you post in a Fidelio X2 thread. You heard them too? Hopefully some decent sales pop up for Boxing Day - doubtful though, this is Canada after-all.

Any other recommendations would be great.
BTW I listen to almost anything, so looking for a blanket recommendation.

Currently have a pre-i Grado sr125. Like it ok, looking for a bit more in the sub-bass dept. Would like to try something other than another Grado, or Sennheiser - had a pair of hd590 years ago, possibly the second most enjoyable thing I've had on my head. Change is good, right?

I enjoy the X3 most with headphones and IEM's that have not too much bass (especially midbass) since it does add a bit extra bass and warmth to my ears. I noticed that you ordered the B3's and they're a perfect match for the X3.

For fullsized headphones I like it a lot with the Pro80's. The HM5 I haven't used in a long time but I can try them out tomorrow again. I've got the 600 ohm DT880 and I've never really tried it with the X3 without an amp but I can give that also a shot in the morning. I think I prefer the Q710's over the DT880's but I'm not sure yet.........

Regarding the X2 I'm going to get them but some damn IEM's keeps coming in the way stealing my money all the time

I had them in my cart on Amazon.it but then the Norwegian crown decided to go down with the oil price so now I'm hoping for a good local deal on the new year.........

In my book the Pro80's are the best value full sized closed cans and I think most people will enjoy them since they sound plain good without any odd attributes. It's hard to go wrong with them. Yous can also adjust the sound slightly by the choice of pads for them.

Thanks for the advice, I'm in the same boat re. currency - lousy OPEC
Have been leaning towards the Pro 80 w/ HM5 pads. Would be cheapest, but those X2s seem to be beckoning me (too bad they aren't available on Amazon.ca, I'd have to order from the States.) The Beyers are easy to get locally, and as far as the AKGs go, I really wasn't sure if the X3 would have enough grunt to drive them properly (I also got a nx1 amp on the way, but it probably isn't much better on that front).
Actually I may cancel the B3 order for the time being, esp if I do decide to splurge (and well the b6 hopefully will be here sooner rather than later).
Cheers.

How do you find guys if I pair my New MDR-1R with a Fiio x3? when i had mine and I paired with XBA-H3, IMHO made the XBA-H3  less bassy than when using H3 in my laptop,

For the X3, I'd like to hear people's experience with the FiiO E11 and E11k, especially from people who have used both.
Thinking of taking the plunge into the headphone amp world.
I use Grado SR 80i.
Thanks!

Fiio e11 ( i own it )provides more forward sound signature and more accurate bass boost.. But that is all .. It won't upgrade the sound quality and x3'amp is more powerful..so if you want to go for a headphone amp ( like i do ) you should consider a higher options

E12 is excellent with the x3 and Grado.  With the E12, the Grado's are driven with a bit more authority, while the sound is a little more neutral than the X3 alone.  It is certainly worth a look.

I have the X3, loved it with my audio technica m50, but we was underwhelmed with the seinhheizer HD 598. It lacks the amplification to drive these headphones to good levels.

Few questions:
- would it be considerably better to get the e12 as additional amp, or would I be better in terms of quality with a standalone x5?
- can I directly connect my iPhone 6 via lightning to usb cable adapter to the x3, or do I still need a hub/30 pin connector in between?
Any way to connect my old iPod classic to the x3?
Thanks.

Welcome to Head-fi sorry about your wallet.

Did you try high gain with the hd598? The x3 is more powerful than the x5 BTW.

I tried it the audio technics but didn't like the sound. It feels a little like cheating to me :), I was an a headphone amp not a digital amp.

I'll try tonight and see how it goes.

Well the e12 has way more than enough power. If you have an extra 500$ go for the X5/E12 combo! I have it with my hifiman he400i and it is an amazing combo.

This hobby will always make you wonder if I spend a little more will I get more. The biggest gain you can get is from some really good headphones or IEMs.
