I am the one with the HE-500 here, I purposely chose it to ensure a neutral-clean bass while having excellent mids. I don't have beats and the only sony I own are the walkmans.

Pissssssssssssh those sissy HE-500 ain't got no bass. You need some real BASS cans/ iems that has amble amounts but also have crazy nice mids/ highs. The ATH WS99s, JVC FXZ200s and the gr07 BEs all have this and then some. I WANT IT ALL cuz i am a greedy person!!! But your H-500s probably has a Sh!T load more soundstage though.

Those Philips X1s might be more of my liking than Hifimans offerings. But not ready for serious open cans like those just yet.

After a better amp and DAC for my HE-500s, I might I actually buy the X1s if I can't audition them first. They have me intrigued.

Get an HE 400, a little bit better bass than the HE 500 and doesn't really need much to amp, not as good treble though but should suffice most of hip hop

Meh, not too crazy about those Chinaman HEs. : P  I need a set of open cans that has it all. Can't compromise when it comes to these thangs. That's why those Philips X1s is more my taste, just too bad the damn pads aren't replaceable.

Hmmm... maybe they might even make headphones out of willow glass once it becomes mass-produced. I'd like to see dat. I think willow "glass" is just super thick lucid plastic :p the idea of throwing headphones around...

^ Spamda your @ss high or something??? But it is interesting to see. haha

how hard is it really to not slob on pads??? Regarding the X1, I don't think it will have the clean bass that comes with orthos

Well those X1 pads are like stuck on the drivers and can't be taken off. So once the pads break due to overuse then it is bye bye for them. You never know, since Philips has been upping their game like crazy of late............ Tyll was really impressed with them that's for sure.
