Colorfly C3 Discussion Thread
Nov 22, 2012 at 5:56 AM Post #2 of 3,325
I don't know exactly why, I know the OP chucked a sookie lala and removed the reivew itself, then it just turned up locked a few days later. It's not really fair on the C3 or people who want to talk about it, then again there's no point having that thread without a review or OP without foundations. Someone I know may be making another review soon, we'll just use that one or create a discussion thread for C3.

May as well just use this thread until then. :xf_eek:

but....i'm getting the 'pop or c'lick'' between songs boooo

to test i ripped one album in my format of choice, mp3 320 cbr, using both itunes and dbpoweramp. same result from both rips. so neither itunes or dbpoweramp are at fault.additionally i'm not getting the 'pop' or 'click' when playing those same rips on a ipod nano, sony nwz-f806 or a nexus 4. i'm not saying those devices are perfect but for when it is 3 against 1.

not sure what the problem is. could be my pairing of shure 840. who knows. i'm not having a shout at the c3 here, i'm sure it is a fine player and i wanted to love it. but based on the above findings, it'll be going on ebay

It happens with all C3, all formats, you can't correct it, I don't hear it anymore. It's such a quite noise It never bothered me. As I've said before it sounds like a vinyl record when the needle hits a speck of dust.

I said exactly the same about the annoying popping sound but after a couple of weeks listening to how much better it sounds than my nano I've re-ripped most of my CD collection (it's an ongoing job) to single file flac/cue per album.  In addition to this huge task I have to reboot to windows to put anything on it as I still haven't commited enough to buy a micro SD and it wont connect to Linux.  Sell it quick before it grows on you too!

My C3 is the one from the deleted review and stozzer had no issues with pops, they don't even seem to be consistent when playing the same "gap" so who knows where they come from.

I'm using C3 fulltime now over my Cowon S9. The Cowon has some advantage in imaging and detail depth (with BBE), but it doesn't sound 'Hifi' like C3 does. The Colorfly has good attack in the mid - high range which gives a real high quality tight sound leaving you a crisp edge. My Cowon just screams mainstream, the bass sounds bloated and lacks clarity, doesn't sound the same almost placid or dull compared, although there's great clarity my S9 has an edge missing I get from C3. The bass detail is awesome, much tighter / well controlled, If my coming CK4 can offer a similar flavour I'll be wrapped.

It's taken me almost a month to learn C3's signature, and there's something about it I can't let go of. Something about the sound lures me in everytime.

Which linux distro are you using that it won't connect to? Isn't it supposed to simply show up as a mass storage device, if it doesn't i'll be throwing mine off a cliff as fast as i get it. No windows for me thanks

Nick, do you have a microsd card there waiting for it?

If so you can just transfer onto the card if you can't get it going on Linux.

i don't think that makes it acceptable does it. this is supposed to be a audiophile grade player right? appreciated by audiophiles right? but for audiophiles to accept 'quiet noise' between tracks really is questionable.

There was much conversation about this in the main review thread, I'm surprised you didn't read about it. But yep, take it or leave it buddy. :xf_eek: That's the way she is until there's a firmware update or endlessly forever and eternity.

i did read about it. there were mixed reports. some were saying it is there. some were not. some were saying it is down to the ripper/file formats used. some were not. i don't think it was ever mentioned though until this thread that

'It happens with all C3, all formats, you can't correct it'

maybe i missed it. i don't know. anyway there has been no official word (has there?) that a fix is in the pipeline. if a fix is likely, maybe i'll hang on to it

Nope, nothing we know of, I think it's 'so quite' some people don't notice it, also depends on how sensitive your IEM / headphone is / voluime used. For example with a BA I can hear it a lot more than dynamic. But no excuses there's a problem for some, I'm sure you're not the only one. I agree it shouldn't be there, but also don't get annoyed by it. I can see it grabbing hold of people preparing for the next track change, lol but to me it's like 'ok hear comes the next song' "pop" :p

You can contact Colorfly and ask them I guess, but there's nothing we know in the pipeline.

I can think of a few things they could correct or add actually.

yeah it is a shame. i want to love the product and support a small company in the process. initial 'pop' thoughts were to sell on but it is so affordable i'm happy to hold on to it to see what develops down the line

You could always sell your C3 and consider a CK4. I recently received mine and there's no 'pop' But you would be dropping down to about 8-10 hours run time from the 16-18 with C3. But it sounds pretty damn good if you wanted to upgrade. (real good) I'll be keeping my C3 too for now, because besides these issues, it really does sound great, I love the design, it's very 'stylish' Anyway, sorry there's not a fix, and hopefully it's something you just forget happening until it's addressed.
