With the he-400 cables I find twisting the cable to the left prior to screwing them on enough to be about equal to the amount it takes to turn to the right to secure it stops it from trying to unscrew.

That is exactly what helps....really easy!
Nevertheless, have just sold my HE 500....thank God!

Hey, the HP2 happens to be the third best dynamic headphone (barring orthodynamic and electrostatic)... and though it wasn't made by John Grado nor it uses the common Grado drivers we know of today, it's still a Grado branded can!

David, have you tried putting a layer of crystal clear, red packaging 3M Scotch tape (12.7 mm wide version) in a full circle around your TTVJ flat pads? I personally swear only by that small, fully reversible mod.

It reduces "shoutiness" and, actually improves extension on both sides.

I own a HP2i and a HP1 and I think my modded pair is the smoother, "cleaner" and most neutral one. It would handle higher volumes better too. Though I really need to do more A/Bing, and considering I only have a few hours of listening in my recently "i" modded pair, I don't want to make any firm conclusion about its sound just yet.

Nice red pair you got!! I've been using Joe's new pads.  It improves the sound marginally, but I haven't tried that mod you name.

Silver, I haven't been following this thread closely enough. Why did you sell your HE-500s?

Yep wanted to ask same thing :D

David, have you ever got your hands on the D7100? There hasn't been any big review over those headphones, and they have been controversial ever since it's debut. Considering it is Denon's current flagship, is it a priority to review?

About how often are people having to re-secure the cables? Once a day or once every few days?

2 months of owning these headphones and I have yet to have them unscrew themselves. I don't get the fuss here, the trick is to position the cable in place, screw the moving part slightly, and then twist the cable fairly tight, not the rotating piece. It will never come loose this way.

I just checked to see how tight it is now, and it still feels as tight as the day I bought them.
