I can't even register an account on Hifiman because it says "Sorry, name is shorter than 3 characters" when it has 8 !!!... or "there was a security problem"... I'd love to register and get one of these earphones to try but the site won't let me. Bummer :frowning2:

Loving the RE-600. I am on about 40 hours of listening during the commute and they continue to improve. They were initially a little congested but they are really opening up. Precise highs stab through a very lush mid/bottom end. Isolation is great too. The best $199 I have ever spent on audio!

Have just picked up the RE-600, sounds pretty balanced to me. I was under the impression that it was a pretty bassy IEM, turns out it is quite balanced. Not a bad IEM at all, though not particularly impressive as well if I'm honest.

I've tried both headphones, so I'll give my impression of them.

What the re400 does good, the re600 does better.  The re600 sounds warmer, yet more detailed without being analytical.  This makes it easier to separate instruments with more clarity.  I'd say the soundstage of the re600 has a little bit more width and depth, but not a huge difference.  The sound across the spectrum of the re600 just has more weight to it than its little bro, giving it a really addictive natural, lifelike quality.

The build quality of the two look the same, but the re600 cable are much stiffer and durable.  I don't know why this wasn't used for both of them.

While I probably wouldn't have spent $400 dollars for the re600, I feel the now $200 price tag is a great bargain for them.

I accidentally left my RE400a in my jacket pocket and later put them in my washing machine... Surprisingly the phones survived the wash and are still working and looking perfectly (probably sounding "cleaner" too

what kind of sound are you looking for ?

Forward or at the same level mid as the bass and treble, the treble must not be piercing, and the bass must have all the good stuff, like good extension, impact and decay , willing to make compromise depending on the option ofc (the RE600 get more leeway , if the ie800 cant do it )

I own both too and agree with this comparison.

But as much as I like the Re600 as a daily comfy musical sounding all rounder, I wouldn't consider them a bargain, even at $199.
The new price now feels reasonable to me.
In 7+ years and several thousands $$$ spent on head gear, my only purchase I'd qualify a true bargain (performance/price ratio) is some Re400 I paid $45 for.

I think people are finally coming to their senses and realizing the headgear industry has been quite overpriced (the Tera player would won the golden price for ultimate greed in that department, lol!)

^ agree with your assessment on the industry. People are spending so much for so little gain.

we are talking bargain , in the typical prices being around for a decent iem ath - not once in a lifetime

i grabbed a used re-262 for 50$ , but this is once in a lifetime bargains

if a shure/westone/senheiser iem goes for 1000$ without being the end of it all , then yes i think that a 199$ hifiman is considered a bargain when compared to all these hi-names overpriced iems
