Hifiman IEM's: RE-400 and RE-600

I own both too and agree with this comparison.

But as much as I like the Re600 as a daily comfy musical sounding all rounder, I wouldn't consider them a bargain, even at $199.
The new price now feels reasonable to me.
In 7+ years and several thousands $$$ spent on head gear, my only purchase I'd qualify a true bargain (performance/price ratio) is some Re400 I paid $45 for.

I think people are finally coming to their senses and realizing the headgear industry has been quite overpriced (the Tera player would won the golden price for ultimate greed in that department, lol!)

I hope they keep the price at $199. There is no shortage of good sounding iem's at this price range and the price of $400 is quite steep. I don't really see them as a bargain either.

As far as the overpricing it seems like it is getting worse. Although the quality of the 1k iem's is better than it was a couple years ago the dap game is much more expensive. There are many daps out there in the 1k price range when there used to be none. I've been tempted but don't think I can make the leap to buy one of those.

Yes indeed, it looks to me that Hifiman had to drastically adjust the Re600 price to compete with many new good sounding sub $200 iems (hybrids and all). I'm betting the price will remain that way, I hope so anyway so other can afford this very good iem, no doubt about that.

I recently jumped in on the RE600 price cut and frankly they're the best IEMs I've heard to date. They don't really sound anything like the RE400 to me, even a "polished" RE400. The sound stage is much more immersive, sound placement is more focused, there's a good amount of sub-bass and bass where the RE400 was lacking, the treble isn't as harsh on the RE600 where on the RE400 it could be at times, the RE600's midrange is even more liquidy and far more detailed than the RE400... the list really goes on. They might be cut from the same cloth but one's a polo and pair of jeans, and the other is haute couture.

My RE400 came from RazorDog, and it even included a case and extra tips, including some Comply tips.  I'm really impressed by how tiny the housing is, which is great because I had to sell my Havi B3 due to the large shells causing discomfort.

while i love the sound of the re400, the re600 are just in a different league IMHO.  it's almost as if i'm listening to premium speakers when listen to the songbirds.  it would be really hard to find an iem at $200 that could sound more natural than these.

Personally, I think the RE-600 are 70-80% of my SE846, 60-70% of my Roxannes, so for $200 they represent incredibly good value for money.

For $79, I am constantly amazed at the sound of these.  Good enough that my entire opinion of IEM's have changed.  Nowhere near the top regarding resolution, balance, or bass heft.  But that's what I have my Primes for, and to a lesser extent the HE-400i's.

Once again, Hifiman surprises me with both value and quality.  Build quality, as usual, remains to be seen.  But so far, so good!

I wouldn't be so sure

[As in, it is a great earphone, but not necessarily an evolution of the RE-400... Rather a different sound signature, improved in the shared aspects - soundstage, imaging, etc.]

Evolution is not the right word. More like revolution.

I think evolution is precisely the right word in this context but whatever suits you

You've listened to the RE600 and compared it with the RE400?
