vibes, you want to tell me it bests all mighty 1+2? Anathema on you :)

Nope. My preference is only that and it isn't a huge one. It's also not a universal. I really like the 1+2 a lot.

I think it works best with cables that have some mid presence. Horses for courses. The Scorpion reminded me of a clearer stock 1+2 cable. Should be VG on it.

Unfortunately Gintaras, this torture [to your wallet] really worth.

Very very very different sound...few levels up...you never expect your 1Plus2 would sound like that.

Cheers

Makes sense. One thing I've noticed about cables, is that downgrades are more vividly obvious than upgrades. More than a few times I've taken a cables potential for granted, until it's it's contrasted, by switching to the confines of a something less capable.

Ok, my time with the 1Plus2 is coming to an end, so here's my wrap-up/summary of my weeks with it (and the first pair I heard).

My first experience with the 1Plus2 wasn't as good as the second. The first pair I heard sounded (and looked) like the beta of the pair I currently have in my ears. That pair has strident treble, overly recessed mids, and somewhat anemic bass.

This pair I've spent the last couple of weeks with seems like the far more mature version of the first set. Imagine the first pair as the ridiculously pretty-faced girl in high school...who happened to be lanky, door-shaped, and wore braces...on her legs. This 1Plus2 version would be her grown up counterpart, fleshed out in exactly the right places, gazelle-like legs, and let's throw in a law degree.

I spent some time in my ASG-2 thread talking about the specific differences I heard, but I'll repeat them here again. The biggest difference for me is the mid-range. It sounds a good deal more forward and fleshed out and, as a result, midrange instruments and vocals shine much brighter. The second biggest improvement comes in the taming of the shrew treble. It retains the beautiful resolving power, but doesn't go overboard like the the first pair I heard.

The last two improvements come in the form of a more solidified low end (especially the sub-bass), and much better build quality. One specific example of the better build comes in the form of the face plate. On the older pair, I noticed imperfections in the gap between the shell and face plate. The transition between the two is now *close* to seamless. The only detractor is the fact that I can see the glue holding the two together when I look into the transparent piece of shell between the black acrylic and faceplate. It's really a minor issue, and I'm nitpicking.

One important thing about the Tralucent package, that has nothing to do with the 1Plus2, is that it's made me a (cautious/dubious) believer in cables. This 1Plus2 came with the silver/gold cable, which I decided to try on the ASG-2. I'm still struggling to deny the changes I'm hearing.

Back to the 1Plus2...I know this sound remarkably different because I have my ASG-2 as the baseline for comparisons. The older 1P2's midrange definitely didn't sound as good as the ASG-2's to me. Rock guitars suffered, violins were somewhat tinny, and most vocals lacked body. I really can't say any of that on this pair. The midrange still isn't as forward as the ASG-2's, but it's a good deal better than the older one.

That's all for now. I'll be doing a comparison to the SD3 when it comes within the next few days, then passing it along to the next member('s victimized wallet).

Very well put, thanks for the impressions. I actually didn't know there was that much of a difference between the two versions of the 1plus2. I'm glad I waited to buy them instead of buying them right off the bat. Am I assuming right that you enjoy the ASG-2 more than the 1plus? Or are they just different?

When was your first experience of the 1Plus2? Last year back in Sept/Oct? Or some time this year? About the cables, I'll have to +1 on that 'cos it was the same with me. In fact what I believe is that the Tralucent cables (at least the former, I've not heard of the updated resheathed silver or silver/gold on the 1Plus2) is the one that makes up a significant portion of the overall 1Plus2 sound. The 1Plus2 isn't a 1Plus2 without either of the Tralucent cables (sliver, silver/gold, Uber).

I definitely preferred the ASG-2 over the older 1P2, but here they're just different. The silver&gold cable brings the G2 closer to the 1P2's sound sig, but they're still different enough to prefer one for a specific song, and the other for a different track.

For instance, I prefer some of System of a Down's work, alexisonfire, Fink's Perfect Darkness album, and Mumford and Son's stuff on the ASG-2. On the other hand I prefer The Lumineers and Regina Spektor on the 1P2.

Even that list varies depending on my mood. I just feel fortunate to have such uber performing iems at my beck and call.

It was actually sometime in May (I think). It was SoundFreaq's pair with the transparent silver cable.

I'd have to agree that the cables seem to highlight portions of the 1P2's sig. I tried the 1P2 with the ASG-2's stock cable, and I heard a difference, though not as drastic as the difference between the silver&gold vs stock on the ASG-2.

It's like $1,200 I think.... I'm pretty sure you can talk to tralucent and they may be able to accommodate you for different pin specifications. Doesn't hurt to drop them a line. I posted that info on the first page of this thread. Good luck.
