What kind of glue did you use to re-mount the driver?

No glue as of now, they fit just right and won't fall off easily. This is just temporary.

When the S600 arrives I might just use blue-tak to mount it instead of glue.

They're not as forward, everything takes a step back slightly. I have them on my CAL! open back. I prefer the sound that way compared to fully closed.

Not sure how it will end up sounding in the S600 when those arrive. Specs show the S600 have a "bass port" if memory serves me right.

Comfort wise, yeah the CAL!s are fully over ear for me. So that is a big plus point.

So, did the mids step back?  The "bass port" on the S600 may be an opening on the back of the driver itself??  The driver on the S500 shows two holes, that would affect bass, as someone tried covering them!

The housing on the S600 has no openings, that I can see. Is that what you were thinking of as a bass port?

The mids yes. Definitely not as forward as stock. I still consider them to be forward though, so I think no worries there.

Yes I covered both holes of the driver before, the bass does step back and is reduced. Break out the screwdriver set and give it a try, its a harmless reversible mod.

Did you transpland S500 drivers into the S600?

No, I don't even have my S500's yet, but I do have the S600's.They are circumaural, if one doesn't have big ears, and they are assuredly a closed headphone.

So i picked my pair up from the post office today, I've only got about 1 hour total on them so far. They sound nice so far; that is to say that everything's there. Good bass, forward intimate vocals (mids), and detailed highs.

Like their cheap IEM cousins, they do come across a tad bit harsh to my ears - a little to energetic, but i'm sure that's something burn in will address.

Now for the bass-drive burn!

Oh, and i'm loving how well built these are. A very interesting thick and heavy duty cable, as well as how nicely they fold up. pretty comfortable to wear; although they don't seem to breathe, but i suppose that's just closed back headphones.

Thank you for your impressions. As I am bit of old school, jRiver Media Center 16 sounds next to Martian to me. I do use crosfeed from head-fi member XNOR in foobar2000 and will have Jan Meier's Portable kit amplifier with crosfeed ready in couple of days. Are you perhaps familiar with any of the mentioned crossfeed options? Were it not for the crossfeed of some description, I would not have bothered with any cans that are not AKG K 1000, due to their completely unrealistic recreation of soundstage - regardless how good they can be in any other department. What I particularly like in f2K crossfeed besides sounding like a stereo speaker system is much improved intelegibility in lower registers. Normally, listening with headphones without crossfeed and comparing the same track being played on loudspeakers invariably sounds thin to me on the cans - no reasonable amount of EQ could cure this. With crossfeed - bliss. Does this description ring any bell regarding your  jRiver Media Center 16 ?

I asked Dsnuts back in the thread how JVC HA-S500 sound on this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZzFruQCofM

I assume he listened "straight" without crossfeed, saying the soundstage was not that great. Please answer how does it sound using crossfeed , particularly regarding soundstage ?

Looking forward to your mods with bigger earpads etc too !

@analogsurviver,  After doing more listining between burn in, I have done some A/Bing with the FXD80.  The FXD80 has a bigger soundstage, wider, more air around instraments, an airer sound overall!  I have been going back and forth with the S500 and FXD80 comparing the sound and I found that when I set the crossfeed in my jRiver Media Center 16, to the most aggressive setting, the S500 sound gets very, very close to the FXD80.  They get just as airy as the FXD80, with a very expansive spatial sound.....very encouraging and enjoyable.  This more aggressive crossfeed setting does a lot for live performances, with a more lifelike dreamy sound, which I like very much.  Classical, Jazz, Celtic, female vocals, are genre's of some of my music that benefit expecially!

Just a few more impressions, as I can make the S500 sound very, very close to the FXD80, it just took a little experimentation!  I am hoping more burn in time will open up the S500 to it's full potential.....getting closer but not there yet, just past 30hrs "drum and bass" burn in!  They do have a long way to go to match the modded ATH-W1000X in it's delicate beautiful sound though, after comparisons.......but the ATH-W1000X has the DHC cable, still might braid one for the S500 if it continues to improve!

Does HA-S500 isolate is good enought for Metro train?

I do not want to blow my ear with high vol though.

They isolate better than I had expected, but nowhere near IEMs. You will be aware of your surroundings. You may be inclined to turn the volume up more than you would in a quiet room. I'm not entirely sure but I'd still suggest a pair of IEMs for that purpose.

Hearing damage ain't fun, and isolation let's you keep the volume down.

The only closed back full size phones i have any extensive experience with are the HD280, M50s, and now these. I'd say they're all pretty close - good, but if you're going for total isolation it's very hard to match what a high isolating IEM can do. By experience, i'm not entirely sure what headphones would isolate notably better than the s500s. I guess you'd have to try them, and see how much bleed in is okay with you.

Can someone show me the "proper" way to fold these up? There are so many pivot and swivel points, I am not sure what the intended method is.

from what i can tell, you can either fold them flat with the cups side by side and the band straight, or fold them inwards with the earpads touching. I prefer the latter, but i suppose if you wanted to stick them in a briefcase, folded flat would be convenient.
