Put the S500 drivers in the S400 white ones and you got white S500.

Yup. That's your only option for white S500s...short of a coat of paint, of course.

I've considered doing the transplant myself, but I'm not too keen on investing in another pair of S500s for a mere cosmetic change.

+1

Anyways, it's the sound that matters.

I'll be pairing my S500s with a C&C BH amp soon (which will replace my E11).

White over gun metal?. White looks nice n all but over gun metal?
yeah I'm with Ds on this one. I really like how white looks with certain headphones, but you can't beat the gun metal on these.

I chose black over gun metal when I bought mine.

Gun metal looked cheap and tacky to me in the picture.

Beware, blacks scratch VERY easily, as opposed to the gun metal ones.

Well I've been chucking them about for a few months now and so far no marks whatsoever.

Really great construction for the price, but we all know that already.

Indeed, they're a solid build, but the black ones have a fine layer of some matte matter on the cups, and I've had two scratches on mine already, whereas the gun metal ones don't have such a coating, and are still intact. I also think they do look classier in black

Japan amazon. I bought one today, 35 dollars US. Will come out to 45 after shipping to us. eBay costs about 55-65 after shipping.

Tenso shipping is closer to $20, are you using another shipping service?

Do you have to deal with Tenso with doing that?

This is the seller I bought mine from (although I bought the gunmetal ones, which he doesn't have listed right now), $57.60 after shipping. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Victor-JVC-HA-S500-B-Black-Carbon-Nanotube-Stereo-Headphones-/130846991404?_trksid=p2047675.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14294%26meid%3D5461998580397608679%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D1095%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D140904104844%26

They'll sound great, but they'll get even better!

I think things have gotten a bit better with my burn in. I've found that those flat vocals still remain to some degree, just with those recordings. If anyone here listens to hip hop I like Tech N9ne and Strange Music a lot, but their recordings don't seem to do so well under scrutiny. Deep good bass is not a common occurrence, nor does a spread out/well mixed soundstage seem to be. And the vocals have that airiness to them that bothers me.

Other recordings have a nice wide soundstage as well as depth, which I haven't yet really experienced with my Sennheiser HD650s (the depth). Maybe they need a better source/supply chain to shine (one definitely can do better than an Audio-gd Compass integrated $200-300 dac/amp) but $60 portables that can do it over sub-flagship ~$350 cans definitely says something
