So, uh, I kind of stopped following this thread ages ago and it's progressed too quickly for me to bother actually catching up, but has anyone actually compared the S500s to the M-100 yet? :p

Haha what a volatile question!
I doubt you will have an answer any time soon.
Why would even bother?
If your going to spend $300 on m100 lilke me it doesnt matter.
Also if your going to spend $70 like me on the s500 it doesnt matter either,
because your going to get what you either want, or can afford.

But if you want to wait a month I will have an answer,
and I will tell it like it is...
Meantime just get whichever U want.
Why ask?
just read both threads is enough to tell wich signature sound you would like..
There is no wrong choice both should be very enjoyable.

'm missing in boom boom  ... you too?

I guess everyone hears a bit differently, but the "boom boom" with the stock pads was too much for me (actually hurt my ears!), and thankfully that went away when I switched to the ath pleathers. Although not as much boom with the bass now, it still seems to be nicely there and just about right for me.

Having said that, I have also done a lot more burn in since I switched pads, so I will probably try out the stock pads again one of these days and see how I like it. And I'll be sure to check out some dubstep when I do, because I have actually started to become a bit addicted to the bass from the S500's and dubstep!

Yeah, although the ATH Pleathers get much love in here I just couldn't warm to them. I missed the bass too much

Here's a solution I came up with.  I agree with some that the ATH pleathers are way more comfortable than the stock pads, but cut out too much bass.  It makes the sound 'thin' to my ears.  I had two rubber washers lying around that fit just inside the ATH pads and covers the area that the ATH leaves exposed and the stock pads cover.  The ATH pads have slightly larger opening than the stock pads.  It's just a sliver, but it's what makes the difference. The bass is back when I use these washers.  Here's a photo showing one earpiece with the rubber washer in place (the one on the bottom), the other just the ATH pad.  Sorry about the photo quality, I don't have a good camera on hand.  I'll see if I can get a better image tomorrow.

LoL, that looks like a interesting mod, where can you get these "rubber washers" from? Never seen it before........ Don't understand what you meant by "It's just a silver" care to elaborate???

An link would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

Great mod! By "it's just a sliver", he means that the washer is just making the opening smaller "by a sliver", but enough to change the sound back to being close to the sound of the stock pad.

Brilliant! What is the diameter of the outside of the washer, and the diameter of the inside of the washer?

Imagine all of the "different sized washer mods" that are going to come out of this one lol!
