Well, where to start?  A little background first I guess...

An old man, or at least I feel so.  Serving my 17th year in the U.S. Army, currently in "The Stan".  Actually live in Germany with my wife and two kids.  I play bass, but I'm not a bass head by any means.  I just love to play the instrument that holds the music together and makes the women shake it on the dance floor.

I have been practicing with a bass headphone amp while deployed, as not to bother anybody, and it's easier to learn new songs if you have the song and what you are playing going into headphones due to the level of detail.  I was getting sick of my old, cheap cans (samson, who cares about the model, they went in the trash!) and was looking for something that would give me better sound quality, but didn't want to spend too much.  I asked Mr. Google about what I was looking for, and he sent me to Head-fi, that's one wise man!  I started reading a lot of reviews and looking around, settling for the ATH M50.  I also got the FiiO E6 and L9 LOD for my ipod.  I was quickly impressed.  As I said in the E17 thread, "holy $%^#!, this little thing can do that!  I used it for a while, and then I was hooked.

About two weeks ago, I found the thread on the E17.  I was impressed by the little FiiO, and read the whole thread on his "big brother".  If you haven't seen it, it's a looooong thread.  About 3/4 of the way through it, I decided to get the E17 and hook it up to my MBP.  It came in a few days ago, and I'm even more impressed.

So now I am hooked on Head-fi, and can see this is probably going to get expensive!  Don't know where I am going to go from here, but I am so very happy that I found Head-fi and took the plunge.  My music is that much more enjoyable now!

I would like to thank every member who has posted in the many threads I have read so far, for all their info and reviews.  As I understand, all reviews are in fact an idividual's view, but it has helped a whole lot.  I look forward to becoming a part of the Head-fi community.

Welcome Dave! I'm glad to see you like it here! You said you live in Germany? That's cool cause I have some relatives who live in Germany as well.

Where is your family located?  Germany really isn't that big and I may know the area.

Yeah.  It's the closest you can get to stateside big city feel you can get.  Everything bad aside, it is a beautiful city though.  Just got to stay away from the bad parts.  I have enjoyed every thime I have traveled up there.  I live down in Bavaria though.  It's like the "redneck" part of Germany.

Hey, welcome to Head-Fi and thanks for all that you've done for us.  Nice that you're stationed in Germany.  My mom was born on a base outside of Frankfurt, where my grandfather was heading up a medical unit during the Korean War.

That's what they say, but I think it's the most beautiful part of the country.

I'd love to see Germany some time.  I was in Poland last summer but was in the east side (also north / south, never west

) and other Easter Bloc countries, should definitely go to Germany next time I'm in Europe, just need to learn some German beyond swears and greetings (though what else do you really need lol).  Perhaps Munich would be a better choice to visit than Berlin?  I know I certainly preferred Krakow to Warsaw, much less "big city" feel as you say, though it still had its "interesting bits" at night haha.  Only spent a week there so can't say too much, mostly stayed in a small town.

I just went back and checked. And I AM indeed the first one to welcome you here to Head-Fi(unless someone on other threads did). Oh the joy of finding out an obscure fact that nobody cares about.

I would say Munich is a very good place to visit if in Germany.  If you are into history though, Berlin will offer a better experiance.  Now, if you were ever in Germany in September, Munich is a must because of...  wait for it...  Oktoberfest!!!  Even if you are not a drinker, it is a great experiance.
