I Basso HDP R 10 is IBasso DX 100 Japan Version impressions thread

I wish the R10's bluetooth worked better but its all about the sound quality.

Battery life is another issue. I only get about 5 hours per charge but I use mid to high gain and oversampling (probably still better than the original DX100 though and I know all the outputs are active at the same time).

Problem is my R10's battery depletes 10-15% per day even when turned off (my Fiio E17 does the same thing but at a much slower rate). If I go a full week without using it at all (assuming it was fully charged to begin with) the battery will be fully drained.

Not a huge concern imo as long as it still works plus my R10 rarely leaves home. Is this normal for R10s and should I leave it plugged in whenever not using it (worried that might damage the battery over time)?

Btw, I do NOT leave it plugged in (never have). Only charge it before using (if I remember to plug it in early enough).

I'm also assuming now that no one else's R10 had this behavior.

I know the battery is fairly easy to swap but I can't find the page/link here for where to get a replacement.

Email support@ibasso.com they should be able to help.

Ibasso will refer you to Hibino. Hibino will not ship battery replacement outside Japan. Unless you live in Japan, use a forwarder service or have a friend over then a battery replacement is not easy to come by for R10.

I used 2 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 battery (3500mAH). Stripped the label and the surrounding plastic border. Soldered the 2 batteries in parallel and it fit inside the R10 but very tight. It gives me around 8 hrs of playback.

Still drains the battery even if it's off though.

Thanks for the info guys. I remember reading about how elusive the Hibino battery is.

I wasn't suggesting my R10's battery was defective. Can still fully charge (same as last year when I bought it new/open-box) and drains normal when in use. Did a couple battery calibrations since I got it too. Charged to 100% last night and showed 90% after an hour of playback on mid-gain (no oversampling).

Was only concerned about battery when completely off.

How much does your battery drain while off?

The old battery drains much faster. But the new ones drain slowly. I also noticed the battery meter is not accurate. It stays at 100% for more than a week when I left it fully charge but turned off. But once it hit below 100% the drain starts to accelerate.

The R10's battery meter is never accurate (old Android OS doesn't help there). I'm used to that now and even tried a couple battery monitoring apps but removed them since they slowed the R10 down further (taking up memory).

Sounds like my R10 is normal. If battery drain still happens when using a diy dual battery, swapping my battery won't make any difference.

When I was still running the stock firmware I installed apps from the google playstore. But you can still sideload apps too. Like any android device, recommend only installing apps you know are safe.

I see, sounds good. (I heard rumors that X7 will allow installing only a whitelisted number of apps, which I hope is not true.)

Regarding the DX100 vs HDP-R10 distinction. I understand that there are hardware differences between the two. But you seem to suggest that it is possible to install HDP-R10 firmware on a DX100 device. Is this correct?

From what I remember, only small changes made for the R10. Some UI tweaks and better battery life but I think the DX100 still puts out a bit more power.

I used firmware made by a Russian enthusiast for the DX100 but works fine on my R10

The R10 loads a lot faster with it and also sounds better but the google playstore is gone.

Very interesting. What is the Android version in this unofficial firmware?

BTW There should be ways to install Google Playstore as they do it in CyanogenMod...
