Not really.  See above response.

With rxMK3, you'd not really be satisfied with AK120..... but as a backup for travel and long battery life, it's a compromise you may accept but absolute sound quality is not as good as the 901+balanced amp, who perform more similarly to the rxMK3 combo.

Thanks again kkcc

In this case, really need to give the 901 an audition with the balanced amp fore deciding on the player to get.
The DX100+rxMK3 is really good and still portable enough, but the size and weight is obvious.
My colleagues just go

when they see my combo while they're using their ipod touch.

Should the 901+balanced amp perform anywhere close to the DX100+rxMK3, i'll be impressed.

I'd probably get the AK120 if I were you since you already got the good sounding gig with DX100+rxMK3.  901+balanced will perform close to it (or even better!), but will also look 70% as odd and 130% as outdated as your current stack!!! (DX100 has a touch screen afterall...)

AK120 on the other hand, is sleek and morden with a cool high-end retro look (instead of the outdated look of 901 lol), is really inconspicuous, have super long battery, can operate in one-hand without taking the unit out of your pocket/poach, sound ok (at least won't make me miss the stock DX100 standalone) and did I mentioned it look good?

Of course, you can get both

I thought they had a launch event in NYC with AC Gear and they should be selling in already?  But yes, demand had been strong in China and my local distributor in Hong Kong had only gotten one batch of stock in April and none thus far.  I ended up paying more to buy from Hifiman directly.....  I read from chinese forums they had only gotten to a bigger mass production line/process in June and should have better production capacity go forward.  Hope you guys will see it soon!

Actually am secretly trying to follow your set-up and rename my account "mini kkcc" or "kkcc junior"
bigsmile_face.gif

Also having tried the Fitear TG334 universal, isn't really helping my $$$ health much.

Doubt i will need 3 daps (although the thought did cross my mind) and also the bank account is giving me the stare.
With some toxic cables, a custom in the works, and waiting for the TG334 iem to restock, it's going to looks pretty brutal on the wallet.

If i get both, may need to let go of the DX100+rxMK3 .. though very very reluctant to do so at this stage.

And they didn't release the HM-901...there was one unit there for demo purposes only. Kinda lame if you ask me.

As far as I have read in this and the other HM-901 thread they haven't been able to keep up with the demand from within China. Going worldwide is simply not an option then.

So - nobody knows what the output power of the balanced amp board is?

Sound ok is a bit hard on the Ak120...maybe not as good as balanced 901, but better than all other standalone daps I ve tried except tera...

Yea context is everything... AK120 actually is great sounding - so much so I impulse-bought it on the spot after stumbling upon the demo!  Just that was comparing to dx100+rxMK3 both which I held in very high regard and is a formidable combo!

Hifiman's success with HM-801 and iBasso's DX100 use of sabre dac, probably lend the high demand for HM-901.

Personally, am liking everything about the HM-901 except for built concerns. Just an audition and hands on feel of an actual commercial set, will determine a buy or no buy decision.

Hi Mimouille,

How do you compare the trio [AK120, HM901 and Tera]?

I have the 1Plus2 and the Tera and interested in knowing how the AK120 & HM901 paired with the 1Plus2 (silver cable).

Cheers
