Sennheiser HDVD800 Headphone Amplifier

I just took this picture, I don't seem to have the issue, but if I did I don't think I would worry to much as long as it works perfect, especially for a 2k Amp/Dac.
BTW the differnce between the balanced out is huge vs the single ended, it's like a whole different Amp. I really love this Amp with my HD800.

If only we don't get ripped off by Sennheiser's XLR cable....

Money better spent on an Auralic Taurus II if you are going to use it with a Sennheiser HD 800.

You will thoroughly enjoy it, it's a fantastic sounding headphone amp especially with HD800.

the two are very comparable in sound.  HDVD800 wins because it has XLR outs.  It makes a HUGE difference!

I agree I tried my xlr cable on the hd650 and despite being skeptical about any change I must admit it sounded better.

I am not sure how they design the thing.
But the it sounds like that the balance output is the the only one that uses the amp section. The single ended side may only have an opamp on top.......

May u ask do use the HE6 with the hdvd800
?

Pretty sure HDVD800 is able to drive HE-6 well.
However, I like the sound of HE-6 on my RPX-35 more for the bass.
Sound stage wise, HE-6 is not that big in the first place, so of course it will not be as good as HD800 on the HDVD800 with DAC1 powering it.

That is a hard to answer question , as any dac you like with the headphones will do. The amp is very good And even though the dac section gets bashed it ok to me. Read and try to listen before you buy. And the kind of headphone will matter too. And the he6 will not do well with the amp. After listening to the amp with various dacs I own and my feeling is the amp is quite transparent . Read ,listen and maybe buy used too to save money as getting lucky first is hard. It's not just how good the dac is but more of what sound pleases you.. I hope this helps.

Hey, i was sniffing out information about amps for HD800, can you compare the HDVD800, Audio GD M8, Woo WA5 from Audio GD dac you have?

The Audeze LCD-X sounds real good balanced out of the HDVD800 amp. I recommend the combo for a listen. I do bypass the Senn DAC in my rig but the amp drives the LCD-X very well with good sound.

I have found that using the hdvd800 as an amp only it plays very well both balanced and SE . With most headphones I have tried .

Anyone know what the output power is of the HDVD800?  It is often given as a function of impedance of the load being driven, but I cannot find any evidence of a power of any sort being given in the Sennheiser literature.

Ditto for the HDVD600?

Thanks!

480mW into 600 ohm load @ 1 kHz. ( balanced xlr out) I also read it runs on 16 volt rails but I cannot find that info now. It has plenty of power. It's the first amp I've owned that keeps getting louder with the hd800 without running out of juice ( at ridiculous levels that would seriously damage hearing) I went to my pain threshold once for a second just to see if any noticeable distortion was introduced but it was still clear just really loud! My O2 doesn't get near it in terms of volume but it's irrelevant for the headphones I have because I would never need that extra power for safe - loud listening levels.

I agree with James. It has plenty of clear power. , but if you are thinking of it for HE6 or the akg think another amp. The he 6 even in balance mode is clear but thin. Not a amp to be used for the he6. Hope this helps .
