lol.

I actually liked them, but found them fatiguing on certain tracks.  My ears have always been real sensitive and fatigue easily, and the leather material of the J$ retains more of the sound and funnels it towards my ear more so then the velour which allows more sound to diffuse through the pad material slightly by comparison to the j$.  i suppose

I do like the comfort of the J$ though.  Tonight was my first listen, so I'll give it another shot tomorrow and see how it goes

Ok, I am finally about ready to take the plunge on these, but I have a question about a specific retailer if anyone has purchased these recently from HeadAmp (here).  On the site it says "HE-400 + Velour Pads".  Does this mean that they come with the stock pleathers, in addition to an extra pair of velours?  Or does it mean that they swapped the pleathers with the velours and are sending them that way?

I'd like to try both sets of pads, and if HeadAmp sells them for $395 total with an additional set of pads that'd be a pretty sweet deal.

How do you like the bass in the HE-400 compared to other 'cans' in its class?Hilarious avatar, btw. :D

Thanks lol.

Honestly this is my first headphone of this class so I can't compare on my experiences, but it's pretty widely accepted that the HE-400s bass is some of the best in mid-fi, and even outdoes some hifi headphones.

Once you get used to the fact it's not extremely emphasized as you may expect from a basshead headphone, you'd hear some of the richest bass on a headphone. It's fantastic for those genres.

The bass on a hifiman planar also depends on the amping. For best bass try the shiit lyr..that makes them rumble.

Paired them up with the SA-31 which pumps out 10watts at 40ohm, the Lyr can't even touch that.

The HE-400 sounds good off anything, even the bass is rich with much less than the Lyr gives out.

What I'm trying to say is that the HE-400 may have less bass than those used to basshead cans, but it's still quite strong and incredibly textured.
