Massdrop.com has these for $1099! Only 15 spots are available this round, though. I caved in and ordered one, the hit to my wallet will be felt later this month.

That is an insane deal!

I bought my firt one at $2,000!

ouch!

(Hopefully I didn't come across as if the th900's had a reworking of the driver recently, I was referring to the differences between the denon & Fostex. Edited the quoted post for clarity)

We do know how the driver was reworked between the denon-Fostex migration: namely the denon series using a microfiber diaphragm and (likely) a 1tesla magnet, though the power was never disclosed. The th900's use a biodyna diaphragm with a 1.5tesla magnet. Fostex was the first to claim the driver was "new" in their promo copy, which remains largely unchanged since the th900's launch, complete with a typo:

that sounds like a new driver to me

I recently bought mine for just over nine hundred USD. Is that reasonable for a second hand one that was used for a 2 days?
Did come with everything. box, stand etc

Seems like a real good deal to me.

I had to send it out for re-cabling.

Places that offer replacement cable like Moon Audio (USA) or Toxic Cables (UK) or places that do modifications (Lawton Audio) will re-cable your TH900 to any termination you want.

Did you notice any sonic improvements? I recently got a pair of TH900 and plan on just using it with the iPhone or a portable dac/amp setup, so I would really like to get the stock cables replaced due to it being too long and bulky.

If you plays MP3 from your iPhone, I doubt a different cable will make any audible difference.

With higher resolution source the biggest sonic difference will come from the DAC and amp and less from the cable.

By the way, the TH900 cable will easily develop a permanent kink if you twist it the wrong way.

That's very reasonable. Used for 2 days is practically new.

Really sad I missed the massdrop.  I've been looking at the th900 for a while now.  I am generally unhappy with many of the closed phones I've tried(mostly up to 300-400 price range).

In lieu of the recent price drops I'm pretty much ready to pull the trigger.  How would you guys rate the value of these phones(1250 USD) vs its original price point?  I already own the bakoon amp that everyone says brings out the best in TH900, as well as a decware taboo(I've heard mixed things).  One of the main reasons I would be getting these cans would be for school and office work.

Two days used for at (or about) $900 USD is a steal... great deal! (probably someone who tried to run it straight out of a mobile device and then realized it didn't sound fantastic that way).

Speaking of... I would NEVER encourage someone to purchase a TOTL headphone like the th900's w/o at least a decent dac/amp combo. I agree with the previous poster who said that assuming lossless music, after headphones - the DAC and amp will give you the most improvement in sound (vs upgrading cables for sound). Hopefully Aluren, you at least pick up that portable dac/amp combo - else we may see your TH900's for sale :frowning2:  I hear that Llloyd is looking...

Llloyd: massdrop has run that deal about every 30-90 days over the past year or so. Just login to massdrop and upvote it, and they'll let you know when it runs again. They already have 19 folks requesting it again. If you don't want to wait, RazorDog has a used pair (as in, used for 2hours) for $1099 (which is the same price as massdrop). RazorDog gets good reviews here on head-fi, so have a look.

I know the guy that sold it to Mach3 and he has a lot of expensive gear, so I highly doubt he ran it off a mobile device.

Backtracking on the thread a bit, will get my 900 back, new cable next week. Take some picks and give an update. But my take is switching between stock cable and upgrade on my 846 was impressive enhancement of low end, 3d soundscape, seperation and clarity. Matter of fact I orderd double helix copper silver Litz cryogenic hybrid 8 strand for my 846. Now let's look at usb upgrades and im totally not convinced on that, possibly some warmth enhancements with my oyaide 5s continental, but really could be placebo. Any rate I'll post up and see if the debate is worth consideration concerning th900 and lawtons black scorpian upgrade. No I wouldn't solder IT myself by a long shot.

Have you considered (or already implemented) the Lawton "tune up"? It's $45 and non-destructive.

Not yet, getting a free pair of angle pads, but I like the egg protein stock pads.
