Is this headphone just a glorified D7000?  I can't bear to read 600 pages.

Short answer 591 pages condensed : No

If you already have D7000 and not really bothered by the treble hiss then you better not spend money on TH900.
TH900 is an improved version of D7000 except the mids and looks imo (i prefer the brown wood cups).

But if you are a fan of HD800 sound signature then T5p is for you.
If you liked LCD2.2 bass then TH900 is your choice :)

Sharing my new piece of kit.  I received my Peachtree Audio Decco 65 Integraded Amp on Tuesday.  Dac/Amp.  I'm running the DX50 via coax.  Sounds fantastic to me.  But I know (believe) that it will need a good amount of burn-in.  I'm only at about 10 hours right now.

This is my work setup.  I heard a Peachtree Nova>>TH-900 at the Charlotte meet last year and really liked the sound.  I was originally going to get a Schiit Bifrost and Vahalla 2, but when I saw this on sale for less than the price of both, I jumped on it.

I'll let you know how it progresses.

To some of us, the answer is yes.  I kept the D7000 and sold the TH900.  Not indicative of most people but I thought they were clones of each other to the point of not needing both...................

Keep us posted.  I have always been curious about the Peachtree stuff.

That's a good company and I've noticed the prices on those units have become very attractive.  Hope you love it.

Fester: I'll look forward to your impressions. The specs seem to indicate that the headphone amp in the decco65 may be a little low on power (Somewhere between 100-300mW @32 ohms) even for the efficient th900's. The decco65se seemed more in line, delivering 1170mW/1.2W @32 ohms. Both have a ESS Sabre DAC, so should be detailed with a bit of warmth from the tube.

I love the look of the peachtree though! Now you just need a headphone stand to show off the th900's

Mortalcoil.  So far all indications are positive.  Thundercats are GO!

HemiSam.  Yes.  The price was verrrrry attractive.  If anyone is interested, check just type peachtree decco65 in a browser and select music direct.  Still available today, I saw.

Kraken.  Those numbers sound about right.  I will say this.  With FLAC on the DX50, I can't get above 25% volume.  (zero is at 7:00, and I can turn up to 9:00 or 10:00).  With mp3-320 on ipod - MP3 normalization at 90 dB, comfortable listening is at 10:00 with "absolute rock out" being at 1:00.  Still plenty of headroom.

Ha ha.  Yes.  I need a headphone stand.  But I was just trying to take a pic of the Decco with the cans on them.  I'm definitely NOT a good photographer.  But that's OK.  I have seen too many people on Head-Fi that have this hobby, and photography.  Glad I can pass that one up.

Hmmn... the power isn't about MOAR LOUD, it's about control and finesse at lower listening volumes. The th900's paired with a 100mW @32ohm HP-A4 was uninspiring, even though I could crank it loud enough to pierce my eardrums. The DAC on that unit is adequate, the amp just needs to eat a sandwich.

(Hopefully I didn't come across as if the th900's had a reworking of the driver recently, I was referring to the differences between the denon & Fostex. Edited the quoted post for clarity)

We do know how the driver was reworked between the denon-Fostex migration: namely the denon series using a microfiber diaphragm and (likely) a 1tesla magnet, though the power was never disclosed. The th900's use a biodyna diaphragm with a 1.5tesla magnet. Fostex was the first to claim the driver was "new" in their promo copy, which remains largely unchanged since the th900's launch, complete with a typo:

TH-900 is the first high-end headphones form Fostex featuring the newly designed driver unit...

Back onto the th900 - where are folks getting their stock cables terminated into balanced? Are y'all sending out, finding local shops, or DIY?

I had to send it out for re-cabling.

Places that offer replacement cable like Moon Audio (USA) or Toxic Cables (UK) or places that do modifications (Lawton Audio) will re-cable your TH900 to any termination you want.
